This past weekend I saw someone in a Ford F150 pulling a 4 unit snowmobile trailer (loaded) up a hill near our town. Speed limit in the area was 45 and he must have been going that fast. Suddenly, his trailer came unhitched. I don't know if he had an undersized ball, unlatched coupler, or some other problem.
The guy did everything right - his safety chains were crossed like they were supposed to be and they cradled the tongue perfectly. He didn't try to stop too suddenly and smoothly navigated to the side of the road without any damage to the trailer, it's load, or the tow vehicle.
You hear about the bad ones - it was nice to witness one that turned out good.

Sounds like he did his homework (in knowing how to handle his equipment) and was very fortunate. One thing I personally learned was never, never forget to put some type of pin, bolt, or lock on the coupling to avoid the hitch coming off the ball. Just one time I forgot while pulling a pontoon boat out of the water. Got to the top of the ramp, hitch came off the ball and down (into the water) went the boat, motor and trailer. I was fortunate, no one was hurt and no damage was done, except maybe my pride  bill

Hi All,
Wow  glad all worked out for the best!! Besides haveing God on his side, he also had going up hill on his side!! It is a lot easyer to deal with and safely stop a loose trailer or toad going up, then it is coming down a hill   !!!!!
