Green Gobbler drain cleaner

Anyone seen these ads? Wonder how it would work as a periodic holding tank cleaner.

I suspect if we could actually see our tanks we'd find out that putting stuff in them is almost just pouring money down the drain. I know many/most don't seem to use anything other than lots of water.

Your trying to equate an RV holding tank to a home sewage system. They are not the same in any way shape or form. They are a holding tank. They hold "stuff".

Actually he's not, that would be the case if he were asking about using RidX or something similar. He is however equating it to a clogged drain, which is also not the same thing.
OP, that bottle of stuff is designed to sit in a very confined space, right on top of what it's designed to break up (which seems to be hair, btw). I doubt that pouring a bottle or two of that into a holding tank where it would be diluted and spread out over a much larger area would do much good.
Water is your friend in the black tank, use lots of water.

I would be curious what that chemical would do to the dump valve materials.

RV holding tanks are not septic systems or standard home drainage.

Nope.

Nope.

It comes in a plastic bottle and it says it's non caustic and no hazardous chemicals.
I doubt it's going to hurt a plastic holding tank and plastic drain valves.

And, yes, I know it's just a holding tank, that's why I said periodic. Like once or twice a year just to dissolve the stuff that clings to the tank surfaces.
It says it will dissolve baby wipes and toilet paper.

And, yes, I use lots of water and I also use the Whateverhisnameis method of detergent and Calgon and no ice cubes.

Cue the know-it-alls.

I have not tried it, but have looked at it at Menards. It SAYS it's non-hazardous, but if you Google "green gobbler ingredients", as with any chemical, there's all sorts of warnings on the data sheet, even though it appears fine for the type of plastics where you'd be wanting to use.

It does not appear to me to be any better or worse than the other holding tank cleaner (i.e. Happy Camper) out there.

FWIW, when we traded in our 13y.o. Bounder this past Spring, I did look in the black tank (from what I could see with the little scope camera we bought on Amazon years ago) & it was pretty darned clean. I've always used a water softener & my dish soap has always been original Dawn, so even without looking, I'd bet our grey tank was at least equal to our black. I never had any sensor issues on either. I've probably just jinxed myself by saying all that.
