Weather I do or don't is the question enhanced by you law abiding citizens who do carry! A criminal must wonder hmmmm is it worth it to find out! I love the the fact that we can!

Mine is NEVER "secured in my camper", it's on me, much safer that way as it can't be stolen.

That's only for handguns, the BATF tried to make it the same for long guns but that will be blocked shortly since they don't have any legal authority to require that.

Yeah, really? And how many times has the criminal decided against committing the crime because of the POTENTIAL the homeowner / citizen was armed? It is tried and true: an armed society suffers less violent crime than one with strict gun control.

As for your wager that a loaded firearm hasn't been fired in self-defense since the 1880s...I start digging in your pockets for the payout. Although few have been actually fired in self defense, there are plenty of firearms that have ben pointed at people and that had the desired effect. I am thinking of two in my small city in the last couple of years that did get fired, and it got the job done as designed. How much were you betting on that one again?

I was always taught to carry the proper tools to make sure if there was a problem, you were properly prepared.

Spare tires, fire extinguisher, wrenches, water, first aid kit, communication device and other tools.

All things you hope you never need but you want the proper tool handy if it becomes necessary.

Studies by FSU criminologist DR. Kleck - estimated 2 million defensive gun uses per year, a later Dept Of Justice study estimated 1.5 million per year. But fired or not fired they were used for defense....

As far as 'using' my weapon, well I have a saying that's worked twice so far....."Don't mess (@#*#) with me pal, cause I'm over 50, and I've already done everything I want in this life". They backed off.

Or you could go to NRA-ILA :: and search all the ones there, and those are only the ones that made it to the newspapers!!
The one I was involved in I didn't even bother to report as now shots were fired and no property damage done. Could have been much different though!

Will the potential that a would-be victim is armed deter criminals?

Ever heard of a gun store being robbed?

Yes, yes, not necessarily. Not all gun stores arm their employees. Liability considerations aside (those alone are enough to keep employees unarmed; insurance would also skyrocket or become impossible to get if they were armed), whether employees could be armed or not depends on local regulations.

It's been only a month or so since I saw on the local news about a guy shoplifting guns. The store staff didn't see it but it was on the video. I've seen news reports in the past of gun stores being robbed while the store was open. Granted, it doesn't happen often but it does happen.

Check here for accounts of gun store robberies. Some are successful, some are not.

Problem is thieves will steal any thing they can sell for a few bucks.
