Not true about Canada. I travel through Canada twice a year, have to living in Alaska. While they do not permit hand guns they do allow shotguns and some rifles (wouldn't try to take my AR15 through, too many "evil features"). You declare them at the border and fill out a form and pay $25.00 to register. The registration is good for 2 months. Wish it was good for 6 so I wouldn't have to pay on my return trip. I have never had a problem with the process. Adds about 15 minutes to the crossing.

Large or small makes no difference. It's the fact that you can that may save your bacon...

Here is one

Police investigation on burglary, shooting continue - seattlepi.com

There are literally hundreds more. The problem is that a biased press doesn't want to highlight how individuals can and do protect themselves so these kinds of stories are rarely included outside of the immediate geography in which they occur.

There are also stories every day of individuals victimized by crime and all the police can do is show up after the fact and investigate.

Most people with guns hope and pray that they will never need to use them in self defense. The sad part is that it can happen. Even in an RV.

Thanks Chasfm11. Well said. I Pray almost daily that I will never have to point a gun and another human being as long as I live. I also Pray that if I have to, that my aim is true.

I hate to burst your bubble, but a study by Texas A&M found that each year potential victims kill 2000 to 3000 criminals and wound an additional 9000 to 17000. That is a fact!

I went to Canada last week & in Canadian Border Inspector asked me if I had any weapons on board? I said no. He then asked me you mean you came all the way from Oklahoma without a weapon? I again said no. Sounded like he was baiting me. It was well hidden!

Lucky you!

I think this May 2011 news item might interest you:

"VICTORIA — A Washington state charter boat owner who sailed into Pender Harbour and failed to declare three loaded handguns was facing a minimum mandatory three year jail sentence for smuggling firearms into Canada, his defense lawyer said."

It's not being paranoia it's just the way things are today. Remember when campgrounds use to be safe? I do, this pass summer in Myrtle Beach just three rows over from ours a teen boy was shot and killed by another teen and his mother. This was at one of the nicest campgrounds in Myrtle Beach. Two years ago me and one of my kids went into Lowe's in our town to get a water filter and just over in the plumbing dept. a lady comes in and shots her husband, this took place about 100 feet from us. I spent half my life in law ( USCG ) and have seen it all. I was the weapons training officer for 9 years and if there's anything I know it's how to use a gun. It's a sick World that we live in.

I have, and glad I was able to produce one (actually two, a .45 and a 12 GA a few seconds later).

Actually it's OVER TWO MILLION times a year now.

I carry except in the shower, and even then it's close by since I can't carry a cop wherever I go.

And, yes, I am one of those two million a year that has successfully shown a weapon to stop a crime.

I'm a native Floridian. Just assume we ALL have guns. Most likely you'd be right.

Heck, we invented the term "drive by self defense".

Ummm... WA has had open carry since they were granted statehood and concealed licenses since at least 1968, maybe even earlier. I know my father had one before that but he was an auditor/tax collector for the State and loggers didn't really like to pay their back taxes!!
