Having served in our military I have seen enough blood spilled to last 3 lifetimes. I've seen the horrors of war the deeds of which are exalted by one side while the other sides dead are left to rot in the sun. There is no honor in death, only tears and memories of those lost. I have taken life and I remember all too well those instances and ask why? Was it really necessary? There are no answers save one. Life is precious and it is a gift. Be careful about your reasons now. They may come to haunt you later.

Does anyone carry a gun in New York City. They don't even like policeman from other agencies to carry guns there. It is not another country but they seem like it.

Thank you, Paul, both for your comment and your service. I've never seen the horrors of war firsthand but I don't need to see them to know what you are saying is so true. Frankly, I could never sleep peacefully again knowing I had taken someone's life, even if it was to save my own.

I have to say from personal experience that not all NY cops are against carrying concealed. In July near the Empire State Building I was questioned by one of the NYC Uniformed Officers and showed my Identification Card and my H.R. 218 permit. No problem, nada, zip! He was more interested in hearing war stories about my former agency. Could it have been just because of my good looks? NOWAY!!! I don't know how or if it works for other than for me, a retired fed.

I agree...

Kinda like, "it's better to keep your mouth shut and be THOUGHT a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all the doubt".

Anyway, I rather they find out when they... see the FLASH!

We lived in Canada for two years and I took with me, 5 long guns and left my pistols with my brother in Texas. We completed all of the required paperwork at the border and there was never an issue.

Now I imagine that there is a bit more red tape moving long guns back and forth across the border, but is is possible.

Just respect the local laws and you should get along fine.

Personally I think you ( toneumanns) need to be banned from this site.

For WHAT, Ken? Because YOU as a moderator don't agree with what he SUPPOSEDLY did?

Talk about judge, jury, and executioner.

Point taken.
Since we share the longest border between two friendly countries. I hope the security never gets to a place where everyday travel becomes impossible to do.
Sadly, I see that becoming the case, as it is far easier for me to enter Canada than it is for me to return to the country I was BORN in. Pure security theatre when the government hires their Transportation Security Administration screeners from those who answered an ad in a pizza box.

Well- not "supposedly"- Toneumanns flat said he smuggled a gun into Canada.
And presumably smuggled it back, since he re-entered the U.S. with a weapon illegally in his possession in Canada.

Here's the quote:

Maybe Ken's (retired Moderator, I think) reaction had to do with the appearance that the poster was bragging, or even encouraging others to follow his "example".

Promoting illegal activities is strictly forbidden by IRV2 rules...

We always bring a gun when camping or on long trips. Can't trust anyone these days.
