Handicap RV information page????

I think we have more members with handicaps/disabilities than we know. Most people I know with handicaps/disabilities do not advertise thier problems or seek special consideration. I think we need a handicap/disabled forum. ALL THOSE IN FAVOR PLEASE POST. The administration says there is not enough interset, LETS SHOW SOME INTEREST.

You might try a poll as well. The Rollin in a Wheel Chair blog gives a good day to day appreciation for special needs.

Without mentioning a physical disability other than getting older and gravity - here's something I have found helpful. I bought one of these adjustable steps for use at the front door.


Seems it isn't needed at the door that often. So I use it at the water hook up and other bays when I need to pull things or do some tinkering. It's surprising how as little as six inches from the ground makes up and down easier. Obvious I'm sure but wasn't what I had in mind when I bought the thing.

I have been soaking up information here for quite a while and getting prepared for our transition from the stick & bricks. One issue we are planning for is my increasing disabilities. I have broken my back twice, once in 2006 which lead to a fusion and the second in 2010 which lead to a failed fusion, failed back syndrome and subsequent nerve damage. In 2010, I was trying to be Joe Hardcore and began using a cane with extreme pain. I have moved from the cane to a walker which did not reduce the pain to a power chair which increased my mobility quite a bit.

The more information that can be posted here about anyone has adapted and overcome challenges the better. I am very concerned about the future but I hope to overcome the obstacles and enjoy more freedom to visit friends & family.

Count me in. Perhaps an accessibility sub-forum in the Modification section?

Personally, I would love to route oxygen tubing through the walls or ceiling so as to get it off the floor, yet still be able to change it out.

I have to admit that I was amazed that manufacturers did not have basic handicapable items in their rigs such as grab bars.

There are many types of disabilities and some are not apparently visible. it does not mean that the person advertising that they have a disability with only the appearance on a handicap sticker or license plate does not have disabilities.

I vote YES on a forum for those with special needs.

Ladies and gentlemen of the "administrator clan," what do you have to lose. Just a few kilobytes of space. I would wager that someone with a disability would gladly be a moderator.

One more vote for a new forum. Some of us are getting older and not as invincible as we once thought we were. I am sure that a lot of really good info will come from this and help other people who may have an existing challenge or will aquire one in the future. It may also provide a different approach to solutions that we may have not thought of. Go for it

Many have posted about this.

My take is as we age our ability to do normal tasks will decline, normal and many are not going to claim disabled for what us " normal".

Many folks come up with creative solutions to the problems that age or accident or birth have created.

Having a place where posts related to solutions and campaign locations may just work.

It may allow some to RV longer and safer by sharing ideas.

Many many questions like how to extend Battery life for operation of support equipment or remodels to improve safety.

Catagories could be campground accessibility, modifications, trip and tricks, public safety.

The public safety part would be where posts relating to availabe emergency and non-emergency services are, you would post things like questions about drug stores, doctors offices or ambulance services in place like quartzite, over time we would have a good collection of relevant data that can be used to plan trips into places where these services may be needed by folks who may otherwise had stayed home.

We travel with two teens we adopted as infants. They have various levels of mental and physical diabailities and are both wheelchair bound. We have added a ChairLift to the side of our MH and travel with a cargo trailer to haul our golf cart to move them about a campground. We also haul oxygen, diapers, formula, baby food, bed pads, and whatever other supplies they need for everyday life. Our MH is outfitted with an oxygen concentrator, suction machines, nebulizers, feeding pumps, and a cabinet in the rear closet with a variety of accessories for the above. Our Add-A-Room usually houses their wheelchairs and extensive laundry needs. At times we also have one or more foster children with us, most of whom are also special needs. We would appreciate a forum for handicapped, to which we would greatfuly contribute with whatever knowledge we have.
