he mentioned some rallies in us westcoast and other parts...

This one was a Volvo too!

There was a rig identical to that one at Hidden Ridge here in Michigan last summer for their Mobile Suites rally. That was quite something, lots of money packed into 1 spot for a weekend

The rig pictured by the OP was a new truck. Larry Herrin at Herrin Haulers built the body. The truck is a factory single with a 23K rear axle. So no issues with overloading.

Generally a converted (used) truck with a single rear axle is not overloaded, but it "can" be if you have a very heavy pin trailer. In our case, with a Volvo 780, smart car, drom box and side boxes on our singled tractor we are slightly over the rating on the single rear axle when towing. However, we have a 7000 lb. pin weight. Normal weight RVs will not overload a rear axle on these trucks.

If you don't want a 5th wheel you can still use a Class 8 HDT. That's what I do.

Thanks Sheriff. It's not fancy at all, just very heavy duty. Most of the Truck Conversion people prefer that moniker. Super C seems to be used more for the MDT conversions (class 5 or 6). Mine has a 12k lb. front, 22,700 lb rear axles, 12 liter Cat, 10 speed autoshift. It's a bit more than a Kodiak/Topkick or F550.

Bob, a custom paint shop would go wild over that one! The price would probably be pretty wild also!

An HDT is about the safest vehicle on the road. Certainly much safer than any class A motorhome. When you hear the news about a semi-truck crash it's pretty rare when the driver is injured. The smart cars actually do pretty well in crash testing too.

I bet you could convince them to paint the trailer too!

But really, it's a beautiful rig just the way it is!

We have a guy in the Kamloops park with the smart car loaded
on his rig. He fulltimes there and we see him come and go with the car
on the back of the truck, sometimes without the fiver.
He gets lots of attention.
