Heading South

Finally, heading out tomorrow morning for AZ. I had to work up to the 24 Dec. so the last week was catch up on getting ready to go. We have 6 new tires, and and most of our worldly crap and we are ready for anything. The dog even got a bath! The weather even looks like it will be decent for the trip down. On the road again.....

Let's see, last half of Jan is only a week away,, You want to be in Quartsite that week, Prepare to boondock,, Recommendation, this works best if you have a 4wd.. There are two (or more) boondock areas on the west side of SR 95, south of I-10 about 1-4 miles,, ONE of them will be filled with Ham Radio Operators including Gordon West, The other with RVers (Most of the year they are filled with sand).. IF you park in one of these areas then to the west of them is a dirt path, Old Yuma Road on your map,, You can take this north to the big tend with a 4WD or FWD vehicle (Never tried it with RWD) there is one spot where you basically drive down a cliff.. I've made the reverse trip with a FWD but I do not recommend it,, SR-95 back south is usually free and clear

(Going north it is a parking lot). IF you park in one of the paid BLM spots, look for the dumpsters, they are on the side of Old Yuma Road.
