Jim, you might be on the right track with cutting the roof membrane back and replacing the plywood for a temporary fix but just remember after you put the eternabond down, theres no getting it back off. You just might want to keep that in mind for the permanent fix. Then again you may not have to do much else in the future in this area. Hope all works out and good luck.

Rather than change plans and do a major repair I would get some dicor to seal the two small holes. Clean the area well with acetone or alcohol, apply the dicor and worry about the repair when you return.

Well, we went to Birmingham today and I picked up two 50' rolls of 4" Eternabond. Do you think that will be enough? No, I'm not THAT dumb! I have noticed that the seals around all the fans, skylights, etc. have begun to crack. I'm going to fix this immediate problem and when we get back from our trip I will re-seal everything on top! I got up there and measured and it will take about 68' of Eternabond to reseal everything. I found a place in Birmingham that had the 50' rolls for $50 each! Most places wanted anywhere from $84 to $95 per roll. I got it at Heely-Brown Company, Phone # 205-943-2767.

I'll let you know later this week how the repair turns out. Thanks again to all of you for your help!

You might as well keep this link handy in case you need to remove the eternabond tape later for a better repair. (Removing EternaBond)

I talked with a tech support guy at EternaBond yesterday and he did not recommend placing the wood on top of the rubber roof and taping over it. He said that the EternaBond would not stick good to the wood without using what he called an "adhesive enhancer" which they have, but I won't be able to get it before we leave. I'm gonna go ahead and slit the rubber roof, place the plywood under the rubber, screw it down to solid wood around it, then use the EternaBond to cover the slits in the rubber roof over the wood. He thought this was the best way to do. I will probably be doing that tommorrow and will let you know how I make out. Wish me luck!
