Help, I dont know the roads

I am hoping someone can help me. What would be the best route to take from Amarillo TX to Pueblo CO? Are there some good camp sites in between? We have a 31 ft rv. Also, just want to take our time.

If you want to stay on the Interstate Highways take I-40 West to Alburquerque and the get on I-25 North to Pueblo. If not go from Amarillo to Raton, N.M. and take I-25 from there to Pueblo.

We take 287 to 87 to Raton then stright up to on I-25. Just over 300 miles and easy driving.

I agree with no3putt. Take 287 up to Dumas, then 87 to Raton, then I-25 up to Pueblo. 287 and 87 are both part of the US Highway system, so the should be good road and a nice ride. And there are campgrounds in some of the towns along the way.

Enjoy!

Something you can do with, far as I know, both BING and GOOGLE maps is design a route and "Fly" it using your computer before you ever put key in ignition.

Good trip planing aid.

Casino dry camping along the way

If you find yourself needing a place to stop for the night, check out Casino Camper - Home. Lots to choose from.

Amarillo to Pueblo? At the most, a 5-6 hour drive. And really only the 287/87 or the 287/50 routes. Going thru Alb is a lot longer, but then, it is all interstate.
Not sure how you would need a CG on such a short drive, but there is a small one in Capitan NM on 87 and Cedar Rail at the top of Raton Pass. And a KOA in Clayton NM. Rest area on 87 at MM 392 that isn't well maintained, and has very hard use. Super nice rest area just north of Trinidad on west side of I-25.
Hwy 87 between Clayton and Raton is all 4-lane now and good pavement, but always into the WNW winds--Raton Pass is short, but steep. Going around the 287/50 route, I don't think there are any hard climbs.
3-5 fuel stations coming into Raton on 87 with room to maneuver, but they are always busy. McDonalds/Arbys and a pretty good cafe at the intersection of 87/I-25.

Meant to say Capulin, NM, instead of Capitan. Also at that same place one can visit the Capulin Volcano--small rvs can climb to the top as I remember.
