Help with choosing extended warranty options on new class A
Hello,
I'll soon be facing the decision on extended warranty options. I'm attaching the sheet given when ordering the coach in February. If anyone cares to share their opinion on must haves, don't get, waste of money, etc. please share. I typically "get all" when it comes to extended warranties but I figured I'd get the experts advice here.
Easy Care 5 year / 55000 coverage (Systems): $5575
Easy Care Driver Care 5 Year (Tire and wheel road hazard): $825
Permaplate Interior Protection/Paint Protection 5 year: $1795
Windshield Protection 5 Year: $1495
Gap Protection 6 Year: $899

You need to get copies of the actual contracts and read them. The descriptions doesn't give enough info.

I sent an email requesting the detailed info. But for a high level overview of things to get extended warranty on through the dealer, after market, etc. info is appreciated. I'd hate to just get suckered into all of the dealer offerings.
The other interesting aspect is my local dealer is being acquired by Camping World so I'll have to find out if anything I get will be in fact accepted after the transition depending on when that occurs.

Just a thought... put the money you'll use for an extended warranty aside for unplanned things.
We've never purchased an extended warranty on anything. We also had a Newmar and didn't need an extended warranty. If you have any problems you'll find out during your first year and you already have a warranty on all the systems - some for many more years.

Good advice. I wonder how fast I'll get to 55k miles too as I plan to use the coach quite a bit. I'm guessing two years??

Why do you need a extended warranty right away? The coach and it's components / appliances carry at least a one year initial warranty. After the first year, then decide if you want an extended warranty then get educated and shop for the best one for you.
I am not a fan if extended warranties. It's almost always best and cheaper to be self insured.
The better part comes in that it's often difficult or slow to get an extended warranty company to approve and pay.

I'm not sure on when you can get an extended warranty after the new vehicle purchase. I've always gotten them at the time of purchase on my cars.

I agree with the folks above. If I wanted a warranty I would wait until close to the end of the manufacturer's warranty to buy it. Check out Wholesale Warranties online. It will be cheaper and better.

Extended warranties can be purchased anytime after purchase, up to an age where companies will no longer write a policy - usually ~8-12 years old and depending on the length term of the warranty.
Another advantage to buying later is you can deal directly with the warranty company, avoiding the large commission if the dealer. Such warranties are huge profit makers for the dealer, thus why they push them so hard. Additionally you can usually pay cash or make payments to the warranty company rather than rolling it into the RV loan and paying interest.

Unless you're planning many cross-country trips you'll be surprised on how few miles you'll put on it. I assume you'll be towing a car. Once at a campground you'll be putting the miles on the car for siteseeing, etc.
We traveled constantly as full-timers and in 8 years, including a trip to Alaska, we only had 65,000 on the motorhome. I will say that we mainly stayed west of the Mississippi and went more north & south with the seasons rather than west to east.
