I won't renew. Just not worth it. I have Camp Club USA with a 50% discount and GS is 10%. The magazine is just a catalog of ads.

New Highways Magazine
164 pages
80 full page ads
24 half page ads
15 full pages of info ads (like an infomercial)
Leaving 57 full pages that include table of contents, the cover, classified ads and a very limited number of actual articles
Thus 35% is stuff to read and 65% is ads

May 2011
106 pages
20 full page ads
11 half page ads
80.5 pages of articles or 76%

May 2010
56 pages
12 full page ads
10 half page ads
39 pages of articles or 70%

May 2009
86 pages
16 full page ads
9 half page ads
65 pages of articles or 76

Needless to say the new format is not winning any favors with me!

If it wasn't included with my GS Charter Lifetime Membership I wouldn't bother to pick it up if they gave it away. It was the only magazine I looked through once and threw it away. Now I may just throw it away first.
As for the "discounts" at campgrounds I find that most also give FMCA discounts.

I have a sense that Mr. Lemonis could care less about any of this.

Both are owned by the same company.

Passport America
is the same as Camp Club USA but with a lot more campgrounds to pick from.

After reading all of these negative responses, I went back and re read the new Highways magazine. I didn't have a problem with it for a number of reasons. Everything in the magazine has to do with RVing, unlike other magazines that have ads that have nothing to do with the magazines purpose. I also got a strong sense that Mr. Lomonis is commited to getting Good Sam on the right track which was evidenced by putting his e-mail address in his statement twice.
With the economy and RVing being in the shape it is now, I feel it is in our best interest to support Good Sam and the entire industry during these trying times. I agree that some of the Camping World stores have very poor service departments but it would be a huge loss if there were no Camping Worlds.
I think we should give Mr. Lemonis a chance to see if he is really, personally, commited to improve the whole Good Sam, Camping World organization like he has stated. As I said before, with the economy, and especially the RV industry in the condition it is in these days, it is imperitive to make the changes necessary to keep these companies profitable.

While I did not like the new format and all the advertising I will allow my subscription to continue, wouldn't receive a refund if I stopped it, and see how they do before I renew. If anyone really believes that marcusvip@goodsamefamily.com will ONLY be personally answered by Marcus Lemonis then I have a bridge I would like to sell you. Look at the address marcusVIP tells me this is a special email account setup to be answered by a group of folks :-)

Sure, it's an ad for CW...it's their magazine...but it does have a few good articles.

A big waste. Next to go will probably be Motorhome Magazine also.

Interesting thread. I never signed up for GS because my coach was too old for them to insure and without that coverage I figured I would wait and see if membership was worth the cost of admission. Based on the feedback here, it is apparent it currently is not. Maybe in the future GS will return to its premier status that my elders continue to rave about....

oh...and I enjoyed reading the magazine. It came with my CW membership and I found it informative. With experience I may find it tiresome, but for now I enjoy learning all I can from all the sources available.

The new format is just a big advertisment for Campers World.
I do get use out of the 10% discount at many RV parks that I go to. So for that same yearly fee I'll continue to be a member. Don't bother with the lifetime fee. Not worth the $$$$$$$ in my opinion.

The new magazine format is awful in my opinion. I had trouble just finding an article to read among all the ads. Since Good Sam and Camping World are owned by the same holding company, I thought this was just another way to cut costs but within 3 days I had another Camping World Catalog arrive. The Affinity Group which owns both is in financial trouble and I can understand at least one reason why with all the junk mail they send out. We are life members of Good Sam (joined so many years ago I can't even remember) so through park savings we have more than recouped our original cost. I should'nt complain I guess, but that new magazine is going straight to the trash unless they wise up.

The online version is terrible. I don't like the viewer program they are using and have communicated that to them. Of course I got no reply.
