Hi all

Question: if hitch weight max is 350 can you go over a bit using a WDH?

Is there any stickers/info on your hitch? Most have 2 weight ratings, one without a WDH setup and a weight when using a WDH. You are going to have to know who made the receiver and the look up and try and find information on it.

A example from Curts website:
CURT RV hitches are designed to fit a variety of RV styles. With two types to choose from -- an adjustable 3-piece frame-mounted style and a bumper-mounted style -- these hitches are a perfect fit for most RVs. The adjustable hitch design offers 5,000 lbs. of gross trailer weight capacity and 500 lbs. of tongue weight. It can also be used with a weight distribution hitch to bring the capacities up to 6,000 lbs. of GTW and 600 lbs. of TW. RV bumper hitches, on the other hand, allow up to 3,500 lbs. of GTW and have a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs.

And some info from one of their receivers:

As palehorse says, by definition a WD hitch shifts weight off the hitch and transfers it forward on the tow vehicle, so yes you can have a tongue weight that exceeds the carrying capacity rating of the hitch. Typically the weight-distributed rating is about 2x the weight carrying rating, which of course assumes the WD has adequate spring bars and is properly adjusted.

What is doing your towing ? Can you use a WDH with it ? If you're dealing with frame extensions on a MH, it might not be approved for a WDH.
