I have an older vacant house that I occasionally rent to vacationers that I'll make available free to a Katrina refugee family if one needs it.

If there is someone reading this who needs a place to stay, has family members in the disaster area, or personally knows someone in a desperate situation, ask them to contact me and we'll make arrangements.

The house is old but it's clean and could easily accommodate a family of four. It'll be available to whoever takes it for as long as they need in order to get their 'feet back on the ground'. All they need to do is pay for the utilities used consisting of heat in the winter and electricity monthly. There is no water or sewer bill.

The house is furnished and all the cooking/eating utensils needed are there. Also, there's room to store an RV, utility trailer, extra vehicles, etc.

Richard and Sylvia,
You are the best! I am sure there will be someone who needs this shelter. If someone does take you up on your offer, perhaps the Nor'Easters would be willing to send in some supplies.

Richard,
Do let us know if someone does take you up on that offer. I'm sure there are many of us that would help send money to cover some of the utility costs for a while till the goverment can get everything sorted out and start establishing financial support packages to those. God Bless you for your open heart and open door.

We have space available, also. We are just 20 miles north of Dallas which is supposed to have 25,000 people there now or soon. We have an extra bedroom and can have 2 or 3 people for possibly as long as needed. We can both have our space and share the common areas. Our MH is parked just outside the kitchen door and we could use it also.

Thanks for the responses to my post and your additional offers to help the folks displaced by Katrina. My offer of a place to stay is still available, if someone needs it let me know.

I realize being over 700 miles from the areas in distress will more than likely preclude the usefulness of a house here but it's available and it's offered.

Just a thought, although your intentions are pure, you might want to cover yourself legally by having some kind of agreement filled out stating what the term is (with renewal options if you like) Who is going to pay for damages, and spell out who is paying the utilities. You also might want to have a nominal charge, like a dollar a month or soemthing so that you have proof that they are "renting" it from you albeit at a substantially reduced cost. I hate to rain on the parade, but look before you leap.

Richard, Peggy goodjob and Jerry,
It's folks like you that we became full timers to get to know. We may never meet but it's good to have neighbors like you all on Life's highways and byways.
God Bless you.

I'm not sure how that "good job" got in my last message but since the gremlins put it there we'll all agree!
