Hi all
Many of us here use Photo Point to host our photos that we link to in this forum. Starting in May, PP will no longer be free. Has any one found a similar hosting sight that is still free? Our links in all of our past postings will no longer be good. I am removing my link to my fiver photos in my signature below. I also linked a lot of photos to my Mexico thread, which after May will not be visable.

Warpath, or will they be visiable because I used "image"?

What genius over at Photopoint all of a sudden came up with the idea of trying to make money? Go figure. All of a sudden free ain't good enough for some companies. I started moving all my stuff over to ImageStation.

When I bought my Sony CyberShot, there was an invitation to join up for free and it seems to be working quite nicely.

Could this action by Photopoint, in an attempt to turn profitable, be the reason that it may ultimately fail. Would enough people ante up the $10.00 a year to turn the tide at Photopoint? Stayed tuned.

I'm bailing out! Eject! Eject! Eject!

We're going to stick with them for a year and see what developes. $10 for 1000 photos doesn't seem like a bad investment.

Evidently their original business plan of banner ads and hard copy developement fees didn't pan out for them.

An article in USA Today recently said that the majority of free internet sites would begin charging for services over the next 18 months. Evidently, they are running out of marketing money originally generated by high stock prices and now are faced with the same financial decisions that the old economy companies have.

Only the strong will survive!

I am looking at further options but I never really expected the site to stay free. The old saying That nothing is free in life still applies I suppose. $10.00 a year is not that much to have a nice photo album for relatives to view in my view at least. I'm more concerned with the price of gas and not being able to afford the gas to tow my rig!!!!

It costs me $10 each per month wholesale to host the web sites that I work on. Sounds like $10 per year is a bargain. My bank is charging for phone calls now. That's something to complain about. I'm sure there are other free sites out there, but it does cost them money, and as anyone who has invested in NASDAQ stocks knows, the internet has lost a ton of money as of late. JMHO

I use snapfish.com who partners with BellSouth.com my ISP. I send in film, they develope, put on online to view and all I do is pay shipping and handling, and also can order pictures dirt cheap. Lot cheaper than printing my own. Gees, might have to invest in a cd burner.

I have been storing many of my photos at http://photos.yahoo.com

Free so far, as are their Geocities web page hosting and Yahoo e-mail service.

I started with PhotoPoint when they started ...still have their e-mail advertisement saying it would always be free. No, I don't think $10 is a bargain since they broke their promise. They probably had this in mind at the start of their game. I suggest that you give Zing.com a try. Who knows, they (along with the rest) might break their promise too. I am so pissed off at PhotoPoint that I replaced the captions in every photo to blast them and to refer everyone that reads to use ZING.COM

I thought $10 was not bad at all, but after looking at zing from curiosity, I like the format better.

$10 is not bad. However, it is $10 per 1,000. I have just under 3,000. So that is $30 a year and more as I add.

I just paid my $10. I figured for all the time it would take me to set up a new site the $10 was money well spent. All these web companies thought they'd make a ton of $$$ but when it comes right down to it only a minority of households are actually on the web.

take a look at Imagegig

They offer free unlimited photo hosting unlike a lot of the others that are going to subscription based. It's worth a look.
