Hot water tank question
Our new Coachman RV Hot Water Tank works on LP Gas or Electric.
Which is the best to use for length of service? One of the campers says don't use electric as the hot water heater won't last.
Advise on long term use; comments please.

That makes no sense to me as the propane fire would actually be harder on the hardware than an immersion element. No electricity leaks into the tank to cause harm so no worries, use the electric as it's no different than a hot poker in a bucket.

Most of use the electric element anytime we are on full hookups. Gas will generally heat the water a bit faster though. If you are on metered electricity you may find gas is cheaper.

If you are on a CG hookup. Use their elec. instead of your propane. I will use propane to supplement the elec. if there is going to be heavy hot water use. But then I turn it off again.

Most water heaters die from leaks caused by corrosion. The tank will corrode no matter what the heat source.
Like traveler of california, we used the water heater on our previous coach almost exclusively on electric, except we only had ours for 10 years instead of 13. I only had to replace the electric element once in all that time, and that was my fault. I drained the tank and forgot to turn off the electric. Once the water level gets below the element, the element will only last another 30 seconds or so before it burns out.

True that, Gary!
The heat source does not matter. I leave both ON.
Just like at a house, a water softener prevents a lot of corrosion. And makes better suds in the shower. And other nifty benefits

I leave both on, gas is for fast recovery, electric is more of the maintainer side, both work well together.

If it's a Suburban water heater, periodic replacement of the anode rod is more importatnt than the heat source.

I have mine on elec and propane all the time. Average 90-120 days per year on the road. Once per year I fill up with propane and it costs me 60-70 bucks. But, the recovery time is half.
In addition, I run my fridge on the road, gas cook top stove and my BBQ on propane so for me, $5.50 / month is not worth concern. Especially when one looks at the cost of diesel fuel. It's peanuts.

I've always turn both on. Elec to keep it hot, and propane for when it needs quick recovery.

just wondering ares don't have a anode rod is that the norm on newer rigs?
