We went up to Phoenix last weekend for Saturday and Sunday D'Backs games. Temps both days got to around 107. On Saturday, while setting up the RV around 1:00, letting the dogs out and in, etc., the temp inside got to almost 90 degrees. Both AC units were running. It had started to cool down when we left for the Saturday night game, and when we returned, the temp was down to 72 degrees where we had the AC set. Next morning temps were good and we left for the Sunday day game around 11:00. When we returned around 3:00, temp inside was back to 87 or so. In your experiences, is this what to expect with no shade, no clouds, and 107 outside. Just curious! Is our air conditioning working ok? I know it's a big tin can out in the sun! Thanks to all!

A/C that provides a 30º temperature differential between inside and outside air is about all you can expect. Cover windows with foil covered foam board, pull all shades, put out all awnings to reduce solar radiation into the RV. Is your roof white or dark? I think dark roofs don't help at all. Park with front to the north to reduce sun gain. Also remember, "It's a dry heat."

30 degree splits are about all you can hope for, sounds like all is working as intended.

We find that opening the "outlet vent" at each a/c unit to the direct position (not using the ducts) allows faster cool down and lower temps. Probably has to do with ductwork being near the roof and therefore the heat...And obviously - clean inlet filters.

We are now in Tucson, AZ. It will go over 100 today. We have found it helps to get a head start on heat. Early AM turn your thermostat down so air runs all the time. We start the day around 65 in the coach (with sweat shirts on) but afternoon when outside temps are 100 it never goes above 77-79 in coach.

Hopes this helps. Remember it is a dry heat.

A 30 degree differential in a coach is excellent, many can only get about 20 degrees difference.

Biggest differences I have found (some have been mentioned) is to park under trees/shade will make a world of difference. Start the AC's cooling early in the day. Keep all shades lowered and awnings extended. Wrap the front of your coach with a RV sunshield of some type (the ones on the outside are much more effective). Clean you AC Air filters and condenser coils

My snarky answer however is what are you doing in Phoenix? Start the engine and head north to Oregon or Colorado and then you won't have to worry about this.

Park in shade
Start AC early
Deploy awning
Got awnings for all windows?
Position the coach so windshield is not directly into the sun
Windshield outside cover
Keep shades drawn closed on windows and windshield
Go shopping, the movie theatre, other during activity where there is cold AC during the heat of the day...

Yeah, I think if you can get better than 20 degrees cooler than outside than you are doing good. We set a fan by the bedroom, to push the air around some more, and that seems to help. It feels cooler anyway.

Wow! I'd sure like to get a 30 degree differential in my units.

The best I can do is around 20 degrees from outside temps.

I am in a park and the outside temp is 88 degrees. I have had the AC going and set at 72 since the cooler morning. The best my AC will do is 79 degrees inside. My buddy next door in his rig has his set at 72 and his interior is 72. Same basement system. Got to be a problem right? I've already spent about $1200 on a new circuit board and thermostat. HELP!

Another thing you may want to add is a small fan to circulate air through the cabin.

If you have a basement A/C that's not giving the cool you think you should, check that the ducts running in the rear cap are all intact and not leaking a bunch of cool air into the cap. A number of folks have reported this issue.

You would think that a coach with two AC air compressors would be able to cool down to a comfortable temperature without having to resort to adding fans.... It's only 88 outside... There's something wrong here....
