Like Mr_D we stay pretty close to the highway, usually with-in a half mile or less.

<10. We might stretch a leg or shorten one to keep closer to travel path. Side excursions for a cg waste time, just better off pushing a bit. Not even slightly comfortable going >400 miles per leg though.

For quiet, we will drive the distance required. It is part of the travel experience. Our boundary condition would be 20 miles.
The lower cost of COE parks and the secluded nature are a draw. However, the circuitous route often required to reach a COE park has the effect of additional miles.
We have found similar due to GPS routing that is not direct. A specific case was a vinyard location that routed us around curves and up scenic hills over about a 10 mile drive when a two mile trip off the interstate would have reached the park directly.
So, if you are researching how to effectively locate an RV park, consider simply enough distance to dampen traffic noise. The alternative is a facility with walls, wind breaks, or earthen berms to deflect and dampen the noise. However, highway elevation with respect to the park can make a difference in transmitted noise level and should be a primary consideration when picking a site for the park.
Thanks for asking.

We do the same as the others above. Unless it's a destination spot, we stay close to the road.

I actually look for campgrounds that are a mile or so off the highway. My DW does not like the traffic noise associated with Interstate exit ramp CG

I have traveled up to 10 miles to find a decent camp ground, we require Full hook-ups 50 amps sites when traveling to our destination spot. Need to keep the DW happy.

Depends. Normally we are able to find overnight accomodations within a couple of miles of the highway. If it is hot weather I will go further to secure a 50 amp spot.

I prefer it to be at least a mile or two, but not over ten. I sleep very light and road noise often interferes with my sleep.

As close to interstate as possible with a gas station on way to park.

To the extent that its possible to do so, every overnight stop becomes a destination in itself.
I'm rarely just pushing to get somewhere else, so the meandering journey with pleasant places to stay for a night or a week is all part of the pleasure.
