How far can you go?

Just an odd question.

Our coach is on the Fleetwood chassis with the Cat 300hp C7. We understand it to have a fuel capacity of 90 gal. We have used the fuel to the point the fuel gauge pointer was more on the EMPTY mark than not. We filled it up--with 72 gal.

Does anyone know (more or less) how many of those 18 gal supposedly left are actually available for the engine (we understand ya can't get it all)?

Oops!

Of course I meant a Freightliner chassis.

You could hook a pump to the line and pump till you get air. Then measure fuel and put back in tank.Just remember if you push the limits and run out it can be a hastle to prime and get started again. The easiest would be to open the drain on the water separator and slide a tube connected to a pump over the valve to empty.Depending where the dip tube is located a steep hill could change the available fuel when low.

I always consider my tank empty when it has only twenty gallons left.

On my 03 Freightliner chassis my specs say I carry 100 gallons. If it shows half or a quarter it has always been right on for what I need. If I were you I would believe the gauge and start looking for fuel no later than a quarter of a tank left.

Do you have the actual spec sheet that says your coach has a 90 gal tank? I found specs for a 2010 Bounder 38P and it only shows a 75 gallon tank. 2010 Bounder 38P Floor Plan & Specs : Fleetwood RV

Sure sounds like you may have the same. Just noticed it is not a diesel though

My 95 gallon tank has a label on it saying something like: Never fill past 95% of capacity. Hmmm,,, so I really only have usable 90 gallons and leaving a reserve of say 10 gallons provides only 80 gallons of usable capacity.

My 150 gal tank is right on at 1/4, but not so good between 1/2 and 3/4. I've never run it lower than 1/4, so have no idea where the engine dies from lack of fuel.

My tank is only 75 gallons. I tend to fill up when at half a tank cause it doesn't hurt so much paying for 35 gallons vice 70 gallons. Plus I'm about due to take a restroom break by then.

my 100 gallon is right on at a 1/4 i can stuff 70-76 gallons in her, depending on which side fill i use
but it only stays on full for a few miles, and hangs and hangs between full and 3/4 forever

at 1/2 to 3/8 i plan for fuel

most trips i map out my mileage and fuel stops so when i get to em i fill up.
