How good is the power train on that used RV?

This information will give you some insight into why "Due Diligence" is so important when purchasing a used unit.

The only thing I would add to this is a gasoline tank inspection. With the crummy gas available now days, rust it a big problem. We had to have our entire gas system rebuilt because of bad gas and having sat for 5 years with no operation and the tank needed to be boiled out and resealed, new rubber lines and all new filters. I knew about the lines and filters, but the tank caught me off guard and that was a chunk of change to get fixed.

Of course if the seller just changes the oil and coolant before putting it up for sale the tests won't reveal anything.

The test results would indicate they are not trying to hide the lack of maintenance.

Huh? Not sure if that's a wording problem or if your saying that I should be suspicious of someone selling a vehicle that they change the fluids on regularly.

I'll have to say I would not be interested in any oil tests. However I would never buy any used vehicle without a maintenance record showing history of service. Recently a friend purchased a Prevost from a broker and drove 350 miles to inspect the coach. The owner had told the broker the coach was immaculate and maintained. Every filter on the coach was dated 2010 ????? Records don't lie ..... sometimes sellers .......

I agree, however you remember the old axiom, "Show me the Beef". Records don't lie, unless their "Lips" are moving.

Nothing devious here - it's just a simple fact that a fluid analysis won't show anything very valuable if the fluid was very recently changed. It needs to have some driving miles on it to show useful data about wear & tear. Severe problems like coolant leaks into the fluid will show up quickly, but longer term wear items take time. Just because the seller changed the oil doesn't mean he is hiding something, but the net result is the same.

The point is was trying to make was that many owners fail to perform the proper maintenance. Buyer beware still holds true.
