How Long Does Your Fresh Water Hose Last?

It seems like I'm always replacing my fresh water hose--they typically leak at the swivel joint. I've got garden hoses that are nearly ten years old that don't leak like that.

I think I've replaced it once in the last 10 years. I always use a real pressure regulator and attach it at the hose bib so that it regulates the pressure in the hose also.

The hose on the reel appears to be orginal, if so then it would be ~15 years old.
I looked at replacing it as it does look 15 years old but does not leak and it appears to be slightly smaller and more rugged than my extra hoses. Also use a regulator at the bib.

I have only replaced one since 1974. It seems the raccoons at Hunting Island State Park don't like brackish water, so they bite a hole in your water hose and drink the fresh water.

The cheapo Camco hoses are junk. Get a quality non kinking marine hose and it will last a long time.

You can get top quality hoses here, including ones rated for ultra-high pressure.

https://www.rvwaterfilterstore.com/H.htm

I would guess, though, that your hose hook-up is stressing the coupler and causing early failure. It's a weak point, especially in the cheap Camco hoses. You might try adding an angled connector (45 or 90 degree) or a short spring-relief connectors. Here are some examples:

This is a good deal on a top-quality freshwater hose!

Zero–G Hose, 25' x 1/2" - Teknor Apex 4006-25 - Hoses, Reels & Fittings - Camping World

This is only a 1/2" hose but that's all we need since the PEX tubing in the RV is just 3/8".

If you use these on the end of your hoses, you'll eliminate the leaking. They leak because you're constantly twisting them on and off. If it's leaking at the RV, permanently mount the male end to your RV with pliers, so it's tight and won't leak. If you're having issues with the end that attaches to the campground spigot, mount the female end to your hose and use the male end as the part you screw onto the hose spigot. Either way, the idea is to quit tightening and loosening the hose needs that will wear out.

I have them on my hoses so I can quick connect sprayers and other things on them.

I think mine is still original on the reel. Accuflex 1/2" hose.

Don, we use these too. They're great. The original owner already had them set up on the coach, along with a reminder taped in the water bay to remove the adapter you screw onto the campground faucet! We left the reminder, it has saved me a few adapters as well . . .

We route the hose through a hole in the floor and straight into the inlet, which is aligned vertically over the hole in the floor. There isn't much stress on the hose. We also use those quick connectors and I replace a hose just about yearly. We're not long term campers so I'm connecting and disconnecting the hose 30-40 times before it starts leaking.
