If you panic over the need for a screwdriver or pair of pliers, you are darn sure going to run into more "show stoppers" than somebody with a working knowledge of every appliance and system in his coach.
If you are willing to get your hands dirty, ask questions and learn about some of these potential show stoppers, along with carrying a few tools with you, I would think you might find you can survive more and more of them as you develop a working "understanding" of your coach. How willing you are to do that will definitely have an effect on the the amount of down time you experience.
That said, I've never had a coach system going down for any reason stop a trip in it's tracks.

In the first 15000 miles on our new motorhome, these are the things that were not fixable with a screwdriver and duct tape :
Carburetor failed on the generator and needed full replacement
Hydraulic jack pump failed and needed replacement
Ignition key will not go into the cylinder, lubrication will not help and is not advised. Therefore replace cylinder
Power steps, well lubricated, motor failed, replacement covered under warranty.
Main door lock malfunction, locking us out of the RV at night. Trimark updated version was needed and replacement was done.
I envy all of you who have not had any malfunctions! & I am looking at this thread to get hope that once we get all these things fixed, they will not come back again for our 2015 Itasca Sunstar.
There is no way in H**L that I am going to tempt Karma by posting miles driven and days/months/years without major trip stopper. Just sayin . . . . !
