How to get best pricing

Wow! we just had a curveball thrown at us. My wife and I went to an RV dealer Sat. and were told that the RV show IS NOT the best place to buy. He says the prices are better off show, dealers inflate prices to make discounts seem better. We're really confused. We planned to buy in Feb. when the show comes to town, now we're scratching our heads.
We would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thanks in advance,
Bill and Dee

Why not check out units that you are looking for, select and see what kind of deal you can get? Then at the show in Feb., check and see what the price is.

If show price is higher, wait until the next week!

Priced before the show and at the show. Did better at the show. Probally could have gotten a better deal AFTER the show. Had one still making a better offer.

The Daytona show prices were 4% higher than what I paid to order a new 2013.

Hi Bill, are you shopping for price or do you have a make and model and options you want in mind? If you know what you want by make and model ect. Email a number of dealers with you specifications and ask them to bid their best price. I used this system with I purchased my last RV.

The RV show is definitely not the place to buy as a rule. It is a great price to shop and get ideas. It's also a great place to build relationships with dealers.

Some dealers will bring coaches to shows that they "want" to sell and offer great deals on those coaches. Some not so much.

Buy used and you won't have as big a problem. Plus, that 30% depreciation in the first year was paid for by the guy who bought new!

Buy used and from a private party. Better coach for less money usually. IMHO.

We got our 2010 Fuzion used. It had 8 hours on the Gen set and smelled new. Darn near spotless. It is a Touring Edition II, loaded!!
Well under book!

The special "show prices" are seldom more than the 10-14% of MSRP that the dealer would give to anybody who asked for a discounted price. You should bargain hard whether you buy at a show, or before, or after. Odds are you can get upwards of 20% off MSRP.

Some feel that dealers will negotiate more freely/easily the last day of the show, to boost the sales totals for the show (and not take show coaches back to the dealership). There is probably some truth to that, but you still can get the same deal elsewhere or at another time.

Sometimes, at manufacturer specific shows (which are usually at a rally for that brand), the RV manufacturer will add an extra incentive for sales. But if you are a first time buyer, you probably won't be at that type of rally/show.

Depending on time of the year, you should be able to get 25% off MSRP at any dealer. Sometimes more, like this time of year (late Fall, Winter).

Also keep an eye out for prototypes. Sometimes Model 1 of a unit is unloaded at a show. The price is good, but the headaches.....
