How to remove airbrushed mural from the back of the motorhome

When we bought our "new to us" motorhome it came with a doggie mural painted on the back. We are cat people, but more importantly we want to add a beach scene mural like the one:

RV Mural - Beach Palms 052 w/Faded Edge Border - Freak Decals

During breaks removing my clearcoat peel problem I tried 600 grit, 400 grit, the powerwasher (commercial unit), oven cleaner and the 3M sanding sponges but NOTHING even made a dent. I have a jug of acetone at work but I am afraid to ruin my Bounder!

Anyone been through this one before and what did you do?

Ted

If the dog is painted on I cannot help you but if it is a decal it can be removed with a heat gun. Be careful because you only want enough heat to soften the glue and too much heat will blister the paint.
This is assuming the decal is not clearcoated.

My rig came with a rather gaudy mural on the back. Part of the deal was REMOVE IT! (Dealer knew that was coming anyway. LOL) They removed it and did a pretty darn good job in the process.

Paint can't be removed (you'll have to wetsand, and that's difficult on a whole other level). Luckily you can slap your own mural right over top of it, no problems. If your new mural doesn't cover it completely, get a vinyl shop (that does signs etc) to cover the area in a color that best matches your motorhome, then put the new mural over. That's the easy way out.

Get rid of the cats and get a dog... preferrably the same kind as is on the mural. Problem solved.

I had a similar problem with a tattoo. I just found a grilfriend with the same name.

Wet sand the entire back smooth and then paint it with a background for your new mural. Don't waste your time trying to remove it.

Alot of those are decals in which case the "Remove it" posts apply.

However if it is truly painted on.. This is the best answer.

Since it is the rear cap.. You can re-paint JUST that part without major issues.

Look up an auto paint store. They can mix up any color you need. They will have all the supplies also. Warning!!! You will be SHOCKED at the price of auto paint!!!
