HWH Leveler spring replace

I have the 9000 lb levelers that uses two springs connected at the top with a link. What is the secret to install new springs.

Since I just did this I found it easier to remove the jack ( very easy to unscrew the Hyd hose undo the elec connection) you wont lose a drop of fluid. Then simply tilt the jack to one side replace the spring and tilt the opisite way to replace the other spring and re install. I did need an impact wrench as the bolts were on tight but the entire process took less that 90 min for all four. Trust me this was simple

I've seen other posts , where to install the springs they slipped a number of 1/4 " thick wooden strips , between the spring coils, on the bench, to lengthen the spring , installed the spring. Then extended the leveler and the wood fell out.

Problem with my levelers is that both springs have to be installed together they connect with a link and form a chain with one spring at each end. I have the levelers that fold down and then extend and the springs pull em mck up. I am trying to extend the springs with little pieces of wood but I must extend each one almost two inch's. There must be a proceedure to do it.

my jacks go straight up and down, but I was able to extend thee springs at least 2 inch's with the the wood wedges. I would bend the spring and a buddy would put the wedges in. I bought extra springs when one broke and kept all of the wedges we used in the box with the springs for the next time.
