I did what i could

I just took my flag down because of the storm and i noticed that the neighbor, the same one that was abusive to is dog left his awning out and the wind was about to rip it off. They were gone (i knocked on the door) i heard the dog bark and the parrot make noise but no truck there. So i asked the man next door if he could help me retract it as i could not find a cord.

We pushed it into the down position but could not hold it there without rope and then we noticed it could be electric. Yes it was it had a wire running to the head of it.

So all we could do is just put it back up and walk away and hope it withstood the winds and the storm. I did leave him a note on his door that said we tried to help.

But i guess i did what i could to be neighborly, even if he was a jerk to his dog.

Good for you, DD. Maybe that will open up a dialogue between you both and you can inquire as to the health and well being of his dog.

That would be a good thing... The dog is very playfull, even from this far away i can talk to it and it acts happy and wants to play. It seems to have alot of energy that its not allowed to use and run and play. looks like one of those english dogs with a beard, maybe a schnauzer (well groomed maybe a show dog)

Maybe this type of awning is made to resist the wind? LOL you can see the note i left on the door

I used to have an electric awning similar to that design. It did handle the wind pretty good. It was designed so that the air spring on the extending arm would simply collapse if the wind grabbed the awning. When that happened the awning would fold in the middle dumping all the air out and allowing the awning to settle back into place. Did the same thing when rain water collected on the top of it too.

How did your neighbors awning hold up to the storm?

Well my trailer is not shaking anymore so i think the worst of the storm is over i hope. But i just looked out the back and his awning is still there. So i guess maybe my worry was not warrented.

Anyone who mistreats a animal, just may sue for any awning damage if you reveal you touched it.

That would be my concern also! I don't know anything about electric awnings, but I would think they might could be damaged by forcing them down manually!

I think I would remove that note and ask the other neighbor to keep his mouth shut if the guy hasn't come back yet!

It folds down easily, the electric motor just controls the canvas roll up and that in turn closes the arms, so there are no gears on the arms themselves. We just easily pushed it down but could not hold it there because of the spring tension. No damage was done.

I guess ill think twice even three times about doing anything like this again. They did come home before dark and no reply, no nothing...
