Great replies!
I too spent a career in a Boeing and 3 to 4 nites a week in hotels YUK! You don't want to know what I've seen in them. We use a smaller TT in the Sierras (no Hilton there ) and we did 7100 miles last summer around the country. My own bed, my own shower, my own crapper! Can't beat it. We drive slower now, we enjoy the trip and not just the destination and we can go where and when we want. We won't full time but we will go out for 2 - 4 weeks at a time. Had a Caddy, it drove nice, don't want another one. Neighbor doesn't get the lifestyle or "travel style" but when he postulated the comment I wanted to post it to see what you all had to say.

It's all "Different strokes for Different folks". If everyone liked our recreation, we'd never find a decent spot to camp.

Yes, It's considered rude to build a fire on the deck of a Hilton. You should always use the bath tub. That way you can set your chairs up around the tub and enjoy your fire. When you go to bed at night, use the towels to smother the fire like Smokey Bear says. The sink makes a nice wet bar and if you are drinking, you will have a urinal very close. It's not as much fun as a tree, but what the heck , you are roughing it.

It's guys like you that make me not want to stay in a Hotel. I think I got the room the next day. Just kidding.

I'd like to see the look on the maids face when she walked into that!

Just make sure you use dry wood as most of the rooms are non-smoking :-)

What you neighbor has said is not surprising.
Most people that have never spent any time at all
in an RV will say the same.

The mother-in-law, when she was alive, had the same
argument many times with her brother. She had the RV he was
an area manager for a hotel chain. He was always envious of
her travel pictures and stories. Occasionally he would admit it.

Ask the neighbor if he takes a black light with him to check the bed
before sleeping on it. He may be surprised at what he finds.

The rent-a-room will never be a home to you.
You make the RV yours.

It all goes back to different strokes for different folks.

Let's see. We typically camp 8 weeks a year. If its $200 per night for the Hilton, that is $11,200 per year and I own nothing for it, plus I'm stuck with being where the Hilton is instead of wherever I want to be. Gimme a MoHo any day.

This thread is fun. I was envious of friends with their rv's so took the plunge and bought an old fiver. DW took some time to get used to the idea, her ex would hot shoe it to the next hotel, slam the door and turn on the tv. It was all about the destination. She is learning.

I was getting out of our diesel pick up at the shopping center when I noticed an elderly woman looking at me with her lip curled. I asked her what was wrong. She started in on a rant about big noisy polluting vehicles clogging the roads and Safeway parking lots.

I gently told her we need it to pull our vacation trailer. "That is what hotels are for" and stomped off. Maybe she is your neighbor's wife.

At least this fellow is buying cars that keep the profits at home. Enjoy your beautiful Cadillac. People who bring harm to our North American economy by buying vehicles that send their profits to foreign countries are a concern for me.

I'm also pleased that when I pull off for the night, that fellow won't be ahead of me in line for a campsite. Life is good!

A hotel room is like a rental car.
A speed bump is a signal to accellerate.

I traveled for work for years. Placed the hotel note pad on the bed stand so I could know what city I was in when I woke up.

Imagine this... Checking in, hauling your luggage to the 2nd floor, inserting the key card, opening the door and there is already some guy sitting there in his skivvies watching TV.

Happened to me when GF and I went to softball tournament.

When I first bought the class A, a buddy of mine came over to see it. We were sitting inside drinking beers and I said: "Now THIS is camping." He said: "This isn't camping, this is PARKING".

In his view, if you ain't sufferin', you ain't campin'. lol

To each his own, I suppose.
