I have been at quite a few Flying J's recently giving them another shot after Lindseys posts. Nothing is better but seems to be even worse.
I hit one that did not support the gas side of the truck stop which was handled by ranger.... they did give me a two cents discount though.
Another pilot place would not give the discount .. citing problems with the merge and arguments between the two. The cashier told me this and said any discount you will get is already applied to the pumps no matter what you drive. HAH

I really get annoyed at the setup with the gas pumps. Diesel are nice and easy but the gas are very tight in many many stations or so crowded you can't get in. Nothing has changed in that regards in the last ten years.

I find the Loves stops much better for gas and most are roomier. I mentioned that to the girl at the counter this morning and she said she hears that alot. She also said they are working on getting a discount going for the gas customers.

Well.. I have been to places where Loves had the most lovely price,, And others where Flying-J/Pilot had that honor.

But I've NEVER had a problem with the discount at any J,, Have not visited a pilot since they merged.... (My route only takes me past them 2x a year (Spring and fall, next week in fact) so I don't visit that often,, Citgo, Speedway, Marathon, BP, Murhy and Kroger I visit more often.. I'll gas up at Kroger on my way out this time. 10 cents off.

About 10 years ago or so, Love's gave you a 2 cent discount if you were a member of Good Sam.

I second the vote for Loves. Since Pilot took over Flying J we have seen the Flying J prices go up to match what Pilot charges - and they are usually higher.

But my main complaint at Flying J is the tightness of the RV pumps. It seems that the person in front of us never pulls up after fueling as posted. And so we all wait.

Then it seems that the fast food restaurant is right opposite the RV pumps and someone is always parked in such a way that it's really tight to get out.

So we eliminate the hassle. We go to Love's. We picked up one of their directories and try to plan our refueling in relation to Love's availability.

The only Love's I've been to is the one in Quartzsite. Gas prices are generally best in the area, the place is clean and well stocked, restrooms are usually clean and stocked, and, if the restrooms are closed for cleaning, they will let you use the truckers' restrooms instead of expecting you to stand around doing the pee-pee dance.

Coming back from a trip from IN to FL we noticed that the diesel prices at Hess truck stops were significantly less than Pilot. Being new to all this, Pilot has quickly become my least favorite place to refuel. Now if I could just figure out where the Love's and Hess stop are!

If you have DeLorme Street Atlas or Microsoft Streets and Trips mapping software, you can download map overlay files that show Love's locations (and many other points of interest) from the Discovery Owners Forum HERE. I see they also have files available for Google Earth.

Other websites have POIs available for many types of dedicated GPS units, but I don't know which, if any, have Love's locations.

I don't like any of the big chains...crowded, dirty, and many ill mannered folks. It's not worth a couple of pennies on a $4 gallon of fuel.

Odd. My experience has been the opposite.

I would pay the 2 cents a gal just to have an easy pull in and pull out area like the diesel trucks do.

and what is with all the short gas hoses lately??? I remember they used to be on a retractable rope but now they shortened them and made them very limited in how far out you can pump. I miss the longer ones especially with my current coach as the gas cap is in the back of the rig ( tailcap ) and I need to get in close to the island to fill up.

Forgot to mention, they also have the friendliest staff.
