and unfortunately quickly fading. absolutely fair and equitable. I buy the space on the cg I want. like B bob said, if I want to stay in high end with restrictions, that's what I buy.

Think a KOA is expensive at around $65/night, come on up here to Ontario where our Provincial Parks are around that, and all you get is electric. Need a water fill, head to a spigot somewhere in the park, drive to the other end of the park to dump your tanks. Don't even think about asking for a cable connection or wifi.

I agree KOA is going over the top on prices and not delivering quality. Our last one was $57 and poorly maintained. As for comparing to hotel prices, last I saw a campground does not have to maintain a multistory building (and related taxes and insurance), no beds, sheets, bathrooms and televisions provided either. The only comparison I see between hotel and campground is you sleep there. Five years ago average hotel price I paid was $109, campground was $15. Today staying at many of the same hotels it is $129 (10% increase) Campground cost per night on the last trip was $30 (that is double). State parks are getting as bad cost wise. Boon Docking, casino and yes Walmart are looking better while I am traveling.

Please, please...I agree 100%...KOA is overpriced...but, they're operating season is considerably shorter (3-5 months) than a hotel's operating season which is generally 12 months. None the less, KOA is not in my family's budget.

It simply comes down to "Can you afford it or not?"
Seems while your complaining, your actually saying you can not afford to stay where you want, maybe your wants are above your level ?

Spent most of my life not being able to afford fancy things like hotels, airplanes, nice RV but did not complain they were too costly. The problem was lack of my funds, not their fault.

When I was able I too enjoy the nicer things today and the price of a nice RV spot is what it is.

Okay we haven't gotten out into the real world yet "BUT"
we drive about 1-1/2 hours North of the cities and stay at a casino, Been going now for 4 years
Great Camp Ground
Sun-Thurs $23.00 per night / Fri-Sat $25.00 (ouch!!!!!!!)
Outdoor Pool (haven't used yet)
WI-Fi
Cable TV
Water
Sewer
Electric (30-50)
Golf course (Not sure of costs) We don't golf
Security
Gated
Nice shuttles to the Casino (Great Food) Free and every 20 minutes from your driveway, plus they have one that goes into town daily (very small town) all free
Pretty level spots (asphalt) and @ least 1 tree,
Picnic tables/Fire Rings
And if you want to get out of the MH for a night they have nice 1 bedrooms they call them Chalets, Sm Kitchen, living room/TV full size showers. Can't remember what we paid the 1 time we used one of them but I' pretty sure they are not much more than a campground site.
You could stay almost 3 nights for what your paying.
I know we will get beaten up when we get old enough to leave the state

Just to get out of town and I am happy
Tim

Towards the end of our last long trip we stayed at two KOA parks. In both the prices were about $35. One was in Mt Shasta, CA and the other near Coalinga, CA. Both had full hookups with 50amp power. Spaces were gravel/dirt. Both had a nice pool, friendly staff. The Mt Shasta park is in a very scenic area and this campground is quiet and is forested. The Coalinga park was a stopping place on the way home.

In my opinion these KOA parks were good value for money. So here is the deal, my opinion of course, each park is individual with their own price tag. Look up the rate before you go and don't stay there if too much. And I think it inaccurate to just label KOA as all too much money. Some are and some are not. My 2 cents.

We rarely use much of the amenities at a park. If it is more than an overnight, we spend our time out exploring the area. I can do that other stuff at home. Give me water, dump, electricity, and WiFi and I am happy. I do not want to go swim in a pool that kids have peed it or play shuffle board. Every 10 days we like to have a good laundry.

KOA's in the warmer climes are open year-round and still charge more than many other comparable campgrounds. We avoid them like the plague.

Takes a lot of time doing you homework but you can stay at some nice and quiet places full hook ups for much less.

Travel to some out of the way places a few miles off the interstate highways. Choose State Highways instead.

Recently, $15 night. Full Hook ups in city park 50amp. Nice pool. Golf and Nice fishing lake. Scotland SD. 30 miles from Yankton, prices there 2-3 X that.
