I think a cow stepped on shore power cable. Is this bad?

It just immediately trips my surge-guard. When I bypass the surge-guard (with main 30A breaker off), only the red light on my shore power cable lights up.

Checking ohms on all three posts and holes.

post 1 to hole 1 .1 ohms
post 1 to hole 2 3 ohms
post 1 to ground hole 0

post 2 to hole 1 4 ohms
post 2 to hole 2 0
post 2 to ground hole 0

Ground post to hole 1 14.9 ohms
ground post to hole 2 15.3 ohms
ground post to ground hole 0

Seems like I should have way more zeros than that.

Did my cable get damaged? Have a short in it?

I don't have one, but will go by an RV parts place and have them take a look. But I agree, those numbers are not what I expected.

Sorry you're having a problem, but that's got to be the most eye-catching post title I've read in a long time

Hope you have a swift and simple repair.

cheers,
Joopy

JMHO: If the post C/B wasn't tripped and the cow wasn't laying beside the cord , I'd say just fine.

Since the cows were let into the area where i park and hook up, i unpluggged and stashed the cable.

Rv repair shop says cable ok, but surge guard is not. Will bypass surgeguard when i get back home.

Surgeguard is less than 2 weeks old...

But I still think the cable is shot. Shouldn't have crossover resistance between various posts...Might have to go back to RV shop tomorrow and get a new cable. Luckily, not very far from work.

Contact SurgeGuard. I called them when I had an issue. Answered some questions and discussed what had occurred. They told me to take it to where I bought it and advise them that they were covering it under warranty.
I also buy the CW coverage for about $45 and have used it on a couple SG's. Better than paying full cost of $200+. Anyway I am on my third one and the two replacements were covered by either warranty or protection plan.

I have the receipt, and it was purchased on 4/14. So two weeks old.

I will see if i can get my money back and put it forward toward a better model. I cannot keep going back to where I bought it, because we will be full-time in 4 weeks, leaving Texas, and not coming back.

I need something more reliable.

Hard for me to believe a cow stepping on a shore cable would cause a separation in the cable. Thick rubber/vinyl outside and then heavy insulation inside over stranded wires? Naw, I might look for something else

Get one from progressive industries ....they have a lifetime warranty....and are also field repairable without shipping it back in many cases.

They make a 30 amp and a 50 amp model.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I just bought one with a waterproof flip-up cover. I will try to get my money back on the SurgeGuard, and if I cannot, I will get a replacement just to use as a spare.

But this progressive one is WAY better quality, more features, and not much more expensive. And the lifetime warranty is a MAJOR bonus!
