I've had a few planes. Fuel is the cheapest thing you put in it.

One good thing with a small underpowered ISB stated by some.
Not me. The 10.74 MPG average that summer keep cost down to $1,934 for a 5,000 mile trip.

Summer of 2011 I only have 3,087 miles planned.
At $5 a gal this summer it would be around $1,500.

So, will I be saving $400 with the higher fuel prices?
I will still go even if it would jump to $10 a gal.

Its encouraging to read the posts here-but fasteddy raises a point which I failed to consider; if Barrycare is not changed drastically we are most certainly looking at fuel prices that would made $5/gal look like the good ole days.
As many said/implied why worry now-drive and be happy, while you still can.

We bought with the expectations that gas would assume real world prices some time in the future. Our Teardrop 6X10 1350# all aluminum frame costs us a couple of miles per gallon. Lest anyone assume we are roughing it, Queen size bed, 6gal gas electric water heater, sink, shower (external shower/potty tent), HD Satellite, AC, diesel heater three burner cook top...

I remember several years back, a colleague at work said "It's real easy to calculate fuel mileage on my boat. At 14 knots it burns 14 gallons an hour."

RVs are gas sippers by comparison.

Imagine - you land at marinas and moor there like you were a boat. Then you go into airports on your amphib floats so you can get jet fuel. Point-to-point average spped is about 120 mph. Now that's high-style RVing!

Of course, at near 70, the chances of me (a) getting a mulit-engine seaplane rating, with only 200 hours in sailplanes, are slim to none and (b) winning the mega lottery are even lower, but it doesn't hurt to dream.

Having been in the VIP airplane business when I was at Boeing does give me a better than average chance of getting a decent conversion on a Twin Otter, but it's a very distant pipe dream.

I'm surprised some RV/airplane-oriented show-biz personality hasn't done it.
