Importing an RV to Canada.

Strange how we are only allowed to bring $800/person back into Canada, but we can import a $400,000.00 coach and only pay a fee of $195 plus the GST/HST.

Yes, I know the Loonie is down the tubes and the exchange rate is 38%, but buying a high end coach (new) is still cheaper in the USA than in Canada.

We also have more selection in the US

Government does not care what you purchase (or where) as long as you pay your taxes. The 195 is a Transport Canada fee to inspect your coach to make sure it conforms to Canadian Standards.

When we had our coach built we specifically had it built to CSA standards. That meant we were not able to get a couple options that were available. Not sure what would have happened if we had declined the CSA and opted for the ineligible options. Would they have made us change them?
