Inspection help please.
Short version-----Live on Long Island NY---Rig in Rhinebeck NY, hopefully Rig will never see Long island. Called a RV place in Rhinebeck, asked them about Inspection, they said, "if you live on Long Island, your Rig must be inspected there" I always thought a NY State inspection, covered the State. According to this guy even if my plans are to keep the Rig in Rhinebeck, and other states, then eventually full time all over the country, i must purposely drive back to Long Island every year to get it inspected at a place the Rig will never be, Am i missing something here? Thanks Gene.

We live upstate near Syracuse but I have never heard of such a thing. There are different rules for heavy commercial vehicles in the city but I never saw anything about the island. I would give DMV a call.

From the NYS Web site.
Most vehicles with diesel engines are also exempted. However, diesel-powered vehicles that weigh more than 8,500 lbs. and are registered in the New York Metropolitan Area (NYMA) counties of Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, Westchester, and the five counties within New York City, are
subject to annual emissions inspection. All diesel-powered vehicles over 8500 lbs. GVWR operated in New York State, even if registered elsewhere, are subject to roadside inspections. These safety and equipment inspections are conducted randomly statewide by the New York State Police and the New York State Department of Transportation.
Statewide, including in the NYMA.
It sounds like there are special rules for owners of vehicles in the New York City metropolitan area. I think your address is going to make it difficult for you to get out of this.

Don't complain about anyone's granddaughter who may have smog related asthma. Lots of city kids do, you should know!

TandW, Tuscon,AZ has smog, and a higher percentage of school children miss because of asthma related symptoms than anywhere else in the country. At least that's what was on TV last fall.
