Insurance for New Motorhome Questions

I have sent out quote request to three companies so far. Blue Sky is the lowest and GMAC is over twice as much. I have not received anything back from Gilbert yet and the request was sent out three days ago. Should I have received it back by now?

Also shown below are options that I can add to the Blue Sky plan. Are these necessary/worth it? I do like the total replacement add-on.

Coverage Name
Blue Sky RV Motor Club $52.00
Replacement/Purchase Price Coverage $26.00
Diminishing Deductible Comprehensive $14.00
Depreciation Buy Back $13.00
Personal Effects $2,000 - $10.00
Vacation Liability $100,000 - $9.00
Diminishing Deductible Collision $8.00
Total Loss Deductible Buy Back $4.00
Emergency Expense $750 - $1.00

The vacation liability is what covers you when a visitor gets hurt in your rig while visiting. This is similar to what homeowners liability does. For full timers this is essential. My quote included 250K/500K of this insurance.

Personal Effects is what covers anything not attached to the MH. All the belongings you carried in. Just imagine if you tipped the MH upside down and shook it. All the stuff that would fall out is what this covers. Clothes, jewelry, counter top appliances, all those household items that we take with us in our MH's.

I would not het the Motor Club because I have separate roadside assistance coverage. The roadside assistance coverage is much more complete.

I would suspect that the GMAC plan included many of these things considered optional with Blue sky. My GMAC insurance included all but the decreasing deductible.

Assuming these prices are monthly and I choose only the following the Blue Sky cost would still be a $1,000 less than the GMAC/GS quote. These may even be less if I pay by the year instead of monthly. I still plan on checking with State Farm (home/car insurer), Geico and Progressive. I sent an email to Gilbert asking about my quote also.

Replacement/Purchase Price Coverage $26.00
Personal Effects $2,000 - $10.00
Vacation Liability $100,000 - $9.00
Emergency Expense $750 - $1.00

Give National Interstate a call. They were by far the least expensive and when we shopped for our new coach. I check every year and they remain best. I compare every aspect of coverage and ensure an apples to apples comparison.

My one claim with National was handled very well and to my complete satisfaction.

We use Progressive. Full coverage and seems reasonable compared to others listed. Just my .02 cents.

Make sure you have windshield coverage with your insurance.

It can be around $1,000 to $2,000 to replace a windshield. I've had mine replaced and also four chips repaired.

Thet hit a lot!

Will the windshield coverage be stuck in a particular category?

I remember reading someplace that Gilbert Insurance was either bought out, or went out of business. Not sure how long ago that was.

The collision coverage will show a deductible, then specify full glass coverage. This means there is no deductible for the glass coverage.

Not true as of two weeks ago. I use them and had contact with them. They had three separate booths at the Tampa Super Show. I'm surprised to see post here reporting that they're not responding with a quote. Their staff has always been prompt with me.

They were also prompt with me, but their quote was considerably higher than GMAC. GMAC was the lowest quote by far for me.

Interesting, as GMAC was double on mine. Some co's compete differently in different markets. I put mine out to bid at least every two years.

Glass is part of the comprehensive section of the policy , not collision. It may be full coverage ( no ded. ) or may be subject to the comprehensive portion of the policy. In Fl. we have full glass ( no ded ). Each State varies.
