Taking delivery this week on a new (to us) DP. Got quotes on insurance but boy they were all over the map with the same coverage.

2800 Progressive from dealer
1700 Progressive from broker
900 GMAC from dealer
660 GMAC via Good Sam's

Does this make any sense? Anyone have claims with GMAC via Good Sam's?

Check out Farm and City Insurance out of Iowa. They write for National and Allied. Good coverage. Had one claim and they were great to work with. They did not go up the following year but about 5% on a $3,000 claim. And, they were hands down a lot less than Progressive and Good Sam.

When you are comparing insurance be sure you are comparing apples to apples. Are the coverages the same? Are the rates based on 6 month's or 1 year premium? I compare insurance rates every renewal cycle if I see premium increases. I have found rate all over the map. Some insurance carriers have web site where you can get a direct quote. I believe Progressive has site which will give you a quote. I have also found one case where I got premiums quotes with a $200 difference from two different brokers from the same carrier. When I asked I got the classic answer "computer software error", right! I have not found GMAC in my area to be competitive, but in your area they maybe. Look in the FMCA magazine and you may find some good competitive companies.

Double checked apples to apples on coverages and rate is for 12 months called Good Sam's twice as I could not believe the 660 in light of the other quotes. Looking to get a few more to see if I can get more than one lowest quote as a cross check.

Wow! Are these quotes for fulltiming?

For my 97 Discovery 36RS DP I am just renewing with Geico for $91.40 for 6 months. Includes everything including comprehensive ($1K deductible), collision ($1K ded.) emergency road service, $500K liability, uninsured motorist $300K and all the rest of the normal stuff.

Mine is garaged in Eastern Washington in a fenced secure yard.
