Interesting results when RV shopping today

We presently have our 2001 Windsor and are very happy with it. But as with everything I want to know what's next. So we have determined that our next coach "must have" a few features.
We went shopping today.
I would walk in, meet the sales person and say "I am looking for a 40-42' , bath and a half DP with a king bed.
Model years from 2004-2007."

They would just stare like what the heck. Finally they all said them same thing.
"Kind of specific aren't you? "
What was so cool was we didn't waste their time or ours.
So far a 04 Scepter is the only one we both went, this is it.

I understand, we are in a '03 HR Endeavor bath & 1/2. When we looked we saw only 2 units listed. It appears sales people really don't like buyers that know what they want. I think they want to make up your mind for you. I also enjoy looking at new units to see all the shiny parts.

They only don't like buyers who know what they want when they don't have it on the lot.

Yeap. Their job is to sell what they've got, not what you want.

+2. That blank stare you're getting is the salesman mentally reviewing his inventory, plus any potential trades he's looked at. If that quick mental search yields nothing, that when the BS starts......

That is why I wanted to share that experience. It sure seemed to change the dynamics of the situation.
There was a lot less bs, less wasted time and more productive for everyone.

We did look at some new Entegra's with a single bath.
How does one NOT check out something like that when Givin a chance?!

The more specific the search, the more blank the stare you get back!

I'm currently looking for a bath and a half floorplan with bunk beds for my two kids. After doing my homework, I know who has what.

However, I always get the "deer in the headlights" look when I mention it to most motorhome dealers that approach me.

They want to sell you what they have, not what you want. The two are seldom the same.

The same is true of auto sales folks. I even have one tell me they didn't have it and I walked him out and showed him two. Go figure.

It is pretty easy to say" I have something close to that, and it is sure a nice coach as well as a great value" count 3 and then say "I would be happy to show it to you if you are remotely interrested"

I ran into such a guy when I was looking, he ended up with my money.

That doesn't bother me half as much as when they know absolutely nothing about Motorhomes in general, how all the components work, or what options the MH has. I will often ask a few basic questions that I know the answer to and if/when they start the BS, I will find another salesman or dealership.

Same for dealing with the parts guys...

Ask for a lower radiator hose for a 69 vw and if they try to find it you know they may not be able to answer any real questions.

We have talked with more than a few salesman in the last week.
I am amazed at how little they know about what they are trying to sell.

We met a few who knew quite a bit more than expected, but when they start pushing the one you know you dont want, and clearly stated that, then we walk away. I dont think they realize how much we learn from forums. Doctors are the same way.
