That's bad your right some never catch on you know the saying "If it sounds to good to be true it most likely is"

I do a lot of buying and selling on ebay and through the years I got really good at weeding the bad eggs out.

Me thinks P.T Barnum weighed in on the subject some time ago. As true today as then.

I can see how he got "taken." It was a bid, not an outright sale. The buyers mistake was sending the money without seeing the MH and title first hand.

One of the rare instances where the crook was easy to find and was arrested.

I do some volunteer work helping seniors with money management issues. Two things I have learned. There are an awful lot of lonely, gullible people. Believe it or not, some still fall for the "nigerian scam". The second thing I learned is there are a lot of relatives eager to take advantage of seniors and steal their money.

Glad they caught this guy.

Never pay for internet stuff direct. Ebay and PayPal offer protection against this type of scam. It wasn't worth that kind of money but DW purchased an item using PayPal, it never arrived and no contact from the seller. We opened a dispute with PayPal, escalated it and within a couple of weeks had a credit for the full amount on our credit card.

Never, ever pay the full amount on big ticket items without seeing the item first. I sure hope the poor guy got his money back from that scum bag.

Over the years I have purchased two motorcycles (a Nomad and a VN-2000 LT) using E-Bay. I always make a deposit via PayPal with the proviso that the remainder will be paid via the bank ARTER I personally inspect and see the title. So far, no problems. I will never, ever pay the whole amount sight unseen.

The article states that he was arrested for scamming the buyer out of 17K, but makes no mention of the buyers getting their money back.

Just like small claims or civil court .. if you are vindicated, it does not mean that you'll get the money owed to you.

It's more than a year now and we still haven't been paid .01 cents for our pit bull attack and expenses. Our Maya is not, and will never be, the same dog she was. Our next step is small claims court, but that doesn't mean we'll see .01 cent!
