Interstate rest areas

Do most rest areas have dump statons? I know I've seen some that do but can't recall if this is only some states or some rest areas.

Many rest areas have dump stations. But, many states are shutting them down because of abuse and volume.

The abuse is anything from trash (plugs up the pipe to the holding pond) to toxic chemicals.

Also, I have personally witnessed some RVers that don't seem to care how they dump.

As with many "public access" facilities, the few ruin it for the majority. We try use Flying J for the majority of our enroute service requirements.

Mike,get a copy of "The RVer's Friend" it lists RV friendly truck stops and what they offer. Also list the ones with dump stations.

Unless they have changed in the past couple of months, the I-65 and I-20 corridors across AL have very convenient stations and the I-55 in MS does also. The AL stations are a BYOR* though.

The only dump station at a rest area in California that I knew of was on Hwy 395 and it was shut down a couple of years ago.

Love's truck stops also have dump services & they are free. The only thing you have to do is register, advise anticipated gallons you will drop to get the key.

I have found that most bigger truck stops will have a dump station or two ...some are free, some are not. I know of one here in WA State that will charge $5 just to dump but is free if you show a fuel or food receipt for at least $10.

Most Washington State Parks will have a separate dump station, free for those registered to stay or a $3 fee if you are passing through.

Can someone advise or comment on hwy 395 California. We will be coming down I-10 and then just west of Bartow CA we will transfer to hwy 395 to Reno...we are looking for some nice views of the sierras.

We have 36 foot class a (2002, vortec, allison 5 speed) towing a saturn vue.

1. Is 395 2 lane or 4 lane.
2. if 2 lane is it reasonably wide
3. on the summits; are the grads to the summits reasonable, for example 6% or less
4. fuel stations, are there some
5. would welcome any other comments.
