That is true. But you may be in luck, I have here in my hand a Xantrex RC6 Remote Control. It came out of my coach when I had to replace the inverter/converter. The new Xantrex unit required a different type of remote so I still have the R6. It worked when it was installed with the old inverter so I assume it still works now. An RC7 will also work according to the manual

I have the RC7 with my Xantrex RV2512. It adds remote gen start to the RC6 function. As far as I know, only the RC6 and RC7 work with this series if inverter because the interface from remote to inverter is proprietary.

Yes, The RC7 uses a different cable than the 6. You will have to use the cable that comes with the 7.
