iRV2 Forum and Apple phone-taken photo orientation

I've always wondered how the photo orientation gets all wacky on forums, so I did a little research and then some experimentation.

I learned that there is some sort or orientation tag accompanying photos. I don't fully understand. As long as I can find a work-around, I'm OK.

My work-around is this...home button of my phone always to the right if taking photos for the forum. All uploads directly from crapple phone to PC via USB cable. Using standard iRV2 photo uploading. No intermediate interaction.

Yes, It's no doubt been discussed hundreds of times. Now I know for sure and am simply trying to share.

Here's my findings:

As I posted in the plumbing discussion, you can crop and rotate photos right on the phone by using the built-in editing function. There is no need to transfer the photo to a computer for this.

I learned something new in the process of trying to upload rotated photos from IOS, which is that the endlessly-frustrating, customized tapatalk app that IRV2 is using will not accept the formatting of the PNG files created by editing in the Photos app. It's an extra step on the iPhone or iPad, which should be unnecessary, but if you export the edited image to Notes, and then save the note as a photo, or email it to yourself as an attachment, the PNG image is automatically converted to JPG, stripping away the confusing metadata, which the IRV2 tapatalk app will then accept for upload.

Apologies for jumping the gun and posting before I verified that it would work.

Thank you.

I hoped you had a simpler fix. Typical crapple not working with the rest of the world. Did I mention I'm not an Apple fan?

While I was chasing down my next attempt, an internet search unveiled the fact that the crapple camera app is at fault. One suggestion was to use a different camera app such as Camera Plus. I am trying the free version with great success. $2.99 for the buy version.

Taken in portrait, home button down.
