Is 1100 miles in one day a lot?

Recently M-i-L went into hospice. Quick, change routing and head south, taking breaks as needed. 850 miles, 17 hours later I arrived in time. I credit three things: motivation, air suspension (Class A), and Sirius radio. I hope to never do that again. This summer I did 62 miles and took eight days off.

I over look the SiriusXM radio as a factor in the long distance driving. This is a very nice feature not having to scan every 30 minutes for stations, as well as vast content available. I only kept it in the coach and then use the Sirius over the internet in other vehicles.

Bluetooth is another nice feature of our current coach for listening to Audible books that are downloaded on the phone.

Rode a 2003 Harley Davidson Road King CVO from Dallas to Flagstaff in '04. A little over 1000 miles. And a 2010 Streetglide CVO from Dallas to Mitchell S.D. 4 yrs ago. Almost 850 miles. It is becoming more difficult to do those long days on a m/c. Seat not comfortable like a car or MH.

I drove the MH to Paul's RV last year from Dallas, but took two days. Dallas to Dawson Springs KY the first day. About 700 miles.

I will make my days shorter after retirement next June. Previous trips were on a deadline, but not any more. Gettin' on in years and I don't want to arrive at a destination all worn out. I set my speed at 1400 rpms on the MH (62mph) and I am very comfortable with that setting.

Last week did a 22 hour drive .....covered 1340 miles.....gonna do it again tomorrow ....no RV either way...

we broke camp one day, drove 2 & 1/2 miles and pulled into the next campground and stayed for 2 days. "FRESH, HOT CINNAMON BUNS - EVERY MORNING" sign was the culprit!

They were THAT good, but hard on the insulin supply. Now, that's some avant-garde RV camping stuff right there!

To me, 1100 miles in one day is pretty brutal. We did over 1000 miles in one day just once in a motor home because we had to be someplace 1600+ miles away at a certain time and lost 1/2 a day due to a rear tire blowout on day 1. And that was in a gas coach on a Ford Chassis, which is not great comfort for 1/2 that kind of mileage! I like to keep it under 600 miles and frankly, 400 is better for me as I get a bit older.

Never driven a coach or any kind of Class RV but have towed just over 700 miles in a day, twice and that's all I got. I was exhausted both times when we got to where we were going. Can't imagine doing 3-400 more miles.

The only way I would log 1100 miles in a day is on a plane.

Hi Ray, I am with you. Your doing the right approach practicing the slow down preparation because you will not have to rush back for work from vacation. We joined the retired bunch in Sept of this year. You have a good thing to look forward to. It is better than I imagined.

When I retired, the watch came off my wrist and the cell phone went in the glove box of the coach.



A typical travel day for us is 250-300 miles, with the odd 400 mile day when we need to. Most days we are on the road at 10 AM and off the road by 3 PM, so that we can avoid rush hour traffic.


Being retired and traveling in our RV full time has been wonderful! -Paul

We had one really tough travel day last month - 36 miles I'm not sure the truck actually reached full operating temperature.

About 15 years ago I rode my GL1800 Goldwing from Abilene, TX to mid Mich in one ride. I started at 3 AM (motel alarm went off and I didn't realize the true time until I started the bike) and pulled in at 7 AM two sun rises later. I had a gallon water jug in the saddle bag with a aquarium hose running to the handle bar to drink from and XM radio. The trip was 1400 miles in 28 hours and was a end to a 2 week trip to CA. I ran the X-way at night and 2 lane's during the daytime. It was a long ride and it won't be repeated by choice.
