The idea has a lot of advantages if you want to be in the same place for extended periods. That wouldn't suit our style of travels but not everyone wants to relocate every few days. With your plan you can change RV sites to better or change RV parks if you find something more suited to you. As stated a TT will be easier to move or find someone/something to move it but most TT are lightly built and you'll need to research a sturdy one. Not my expertise but I'm sure there are some here. Check on the TT section for opinions.

I think that you'll be using a service to move the camper; somebody like uShip.

As others have said, most rentals specifically exclude towing, and there may not be any rental companies that rent trucks to haul fifth wheels.
