I agree, when mine had the problem with me being on the inadvertently trailer restricted road mentioned earlier in tis thread, ,,,, it went like insane trying to get me off that road with no regard for where it was taking me in the reroute...... it tried to get me to take dirt roads, very narrow roads, etc etc.. It was on a mission to get me off that road.
I think in the code, when it works avoidances it doesn't consider the vehicle settings for the reroute? Possibly a code bug? It finds the next place it can reroute you and just sends you there, without checking limitations?

I would like to know why I have to pay for map updates for my 5510 when all other models have free lifetime updates. I am NOT buying another model.

Sorry, didn't see this post sooner. That is great news. This issue has been driving me crazy for quite a long time.

One other problem we had with our RM is that when we were headed to Watkins Glen KOA we had to climb a very steep him coming up out of the village and going toward the KOA. Our RM was going nuts telling us we were on a restricted road. That is correct......if you are going DOWN the hill but there are not restrictions going up the hill. In fact we were following two semis up the hill. That may explain why it was trying to send up 15 miles out of the way to get to the KOA.

My RM 7720 recently routed me down a series of very small and winding roads that a Class A DP should never be on as well as routing me over a very small bridge with a weight limit lower than my MH weight, no places to pull over, no places to turn around or back up.
A total failure of my RM 7720, I am looking for a different unit.

We were on a trip from Letchworth State park to Lancaster NY and the 7710 routed us through Warsaw. It took us to From the state park on restricted roads steep grades bot it got bad when it sent us on Merchant Rd heading to 20a. It wanted me to turn in a small lane that was closed to traffic and I would not drive my MH in it. Then it wanted us to turn on a road that wasn't there. It was a field. So off Merchant road it takes us to Warsaw NY. Except huge signs say no truck or cars with trailers. So we turn around and finely get the map and find or way. Definitely needs some review.
I really do like my Rand McNally 7710. So don't think I'm trashing it. Every GPS will do this from time to time bits nice to have someone on the forum that we can vent to.

The 7710 was sold with the optional Map updates...having had Garmin products, we knew we would want updates and purchased it with the new 7710.
Back then, all the makers were selling map updates separately...guess not everyone wanted it.
RM changed that with included lifetime map updates in the 7720, but Garmin is still selling some products with updates as a separate purchase. Another reason we like the RVND best (besides all the RV specific POI's, ease of use, and price point).
Safe travels

Corrupted Device
RandMcSam
I have the 7720 Rand McNally GPS, each time I plug the gps into my desktop computer I get the message corrupted device. I plug the same gps into my laptop computer it works just great.
To give you some background information, I have called the help desk and spent a great amount of time with them on trying to solving this problem. They took control of the computer and tried several processes to get it to work. This included removing the Rand McNally dock and reinstalling the dock.
They had me send the gps to them to look at. I got it back with a note letting me know that the gps was working find with no problems. That wasn’t a surprised for I had told them it was working great before I sent it to them to take a look at the gps.
I have did a search to see if I could find any programs that Rand McNally may have a conflict with but I couldn’t find any programs. If you or anyone has a suggestion on fixing the problem it would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a connection issue with the desktop.

I agree with your post, the problem is finding what the issue is, the RM tech couldn't find it when he took control of the computer and I have not been able to find it

FWIW If the system keeps folks off narrow roads in a lot of places they they can't get there from wherever they are. I've seen it in the NE and South. I'm sure other folks have seen it elsewhere from comments.
I spent the last few years doing route dispatch work. The company I worked for depended on GPS mapping programs to route me. The only thing with a lower IQ than the GPS was the management that bought into that idea. Anybody who does not cross check with a paper maps is begging for the problems they get. Most folks are smart enough to see alternate patterns that work better. GPS's are not yet that smart. They may never be.

Hi,
I believe I have posted this previously but wanted to update board again. We get curve warnings from the DOT or signage on the road. Taking a quick look at this route there do appear to be several bends and or curves. We are running the route now. Is there a specific place you received a curve warning where you believe you should not have been warned?
Thanks!

It was westbound on I-86/NY 17 between Corning and Bath. If memory serves me correctly (and it may not) it was near the truck parking area between those two towns.
I hope that helps.

These small problems are so numerous it is difficult to report them all.
Three days ago I was traveling to Knotts Island, NC following the RM directions which took me over a bridge rated for 13 tons (Rt 165 @ Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal) and I have my weight profile set at 15 tons. There was no place to turn around so I held my breath and drove over. I purchased the RM because it is supposed to keep me from running under too low of a bridge or over a bridge that is not rated for my weight. We are talking about trust...I do not trust RM!

The current software version and map data (4.32.3450.1734, Preferences > Contact & About) does have a 13 ton restriction the North Landing Bridge. We have run this route on current software going back to early 2014 and cannot reproduce. We can, however, reproduce it on older versions of software previous to 2014.
Our mission here on this board is to help and communicate directly with our users. If there is something incorrect in our data or software we do our very best to fix it, and I believe we have been open and honest about that from the start. The first step in that process is to duplicate it. Sometimes we are unable to duplicate these reports, sometimes we are. In either case, those reports are documented and put through testing as we take them very seriously. In some cases they are added to our overall test plans to make sure any new versions don't regress to the prior functionality.
I can understand your frustration and appreciate your honest feedback about your experience. I will do my best to explain and confirm any questions or issues about functionality going forward. I hope this helps.
