Haven't done the Jack Daniels tour - but have done similar tours at Jim Beam and Maker's Mark. Both were worth the stop ... there's an interesting blend of science and machinery to see. I also come away having learned something I didn't know when I started. We usually end up picking up a bottle of something for the liquor cabinet. No man should deny himself an education in bourbon when the opportunity is there!

We did the tour about 7 years ago. Our tour guide was a descendent of the of the founder and worked there during the summer, he was a professor at Motlow College in Tullahoma, started by the founders of JD also. DD lived on the south side of Tullahoma at the time. I thought they only had self guided tours now. When we were there the only drink you could consume on the premises was lemonade. Moore county is dry, the smallest county in Tennessee, but you can purchase bottles or even kegs of JD but you better not open the bottle until you leave the county. Makers Mark is not near there, it is in Kentucky, but the George Dinkel Distillery is about 5 miles North of Tullahoma, not far from Jack Daniels, maybe around 20 miles. Stop by in Winchester, TN and go in the general store on the SE corner of the square, very interesting. Also the home town of Dinah Shore.

If you get up into Kentucky to do the Bourbon trail you might want to allot some time to tour the Independent Barrel Stave Co. in Lebanon Ky.. I found it just as interesting as the distillery tours.
