Just out of curiousity, Rv's and Rving side referenced to boating?

Why is nearly everything about Rv's and Rving side referenced to boating?
Docking, the kitchen is the galley like in a boat, etc.
Humorous but curious.

I suspect because boats came before RV's and many here had boats before ....

I guess a lot of us have had both. I have and I sure see the similarity. I have always had a problem with "Curbside Roadside". I like the motor home better cause it stays where I put it even if I don't tie it to something.

Indiana is home of major boat building companies and also motorhomes. Same workers moving in and out of both work opportunities. Same skill sets.

Its not only RV's, it's aircraft also, same terminology is used, like (PORT) and (STARBORD), for left and right.

Started with 28 foot sailboat.
Sailboats are very small inside.
Don't even think about stoves, refrigerators, microwave, air conditioning, shower.
Knew I would have no trouble camping in a B+ after that.
Power boats are different and more like an RV but I have no experience there.

it's because our COUNTRY started with 'boating', if you will, but really more like 'SHIPPING'....

Insurance jargon is the same: your business equipment coverage is labeled 'Inland Marine', referencing the original voyages of ships and their 'cargo' insurance, except now on 'LAND' : )

'Shipping' charges: your cost of Delivery may be referenced this way even though no ship was involved : /

Like me, some of us have owned and operated all three,.... RVs, boats, and airplanes. In airplanes and motorhomes the captain sits on the left side, but in boats the captain sits on the starboard side. IMO none of ones that I have owned are big enough to live in comfortably. Right now, I have a house or two, for backup. IMO the only way to travel is in a big diesel pusher, for comfort and convenience. The trick is to die without regrets, but I'm not sure it's possible.

Boats are holes in the water in which you pour money; RV's are containers on wheels in which you pour money.

We live in Michigan and have been boaters for over thirty years. We started small and worked our way up till our last boat a 60’ Searay Sundancer. We lived on the boat in the summer and loved it. That said inside winter heated storage was $5500 and summer slip was $6500. The boat had 1100hp Mann engines that were very expensive to maintain. On a good year 10k-15k for regular maintenance. We sold the boat two years ago and bought a new HR 40 DP. I am amazed at the lower costs to purchased and maintain the RV. My HR holds 100 gals and gets 8-8.5mpg pulling our Jeep GC. Our last boat held 900gals and burn 80 gph at 26kts. Campground fees $40+ slip fees $82 a night. Did I mention marina fuel at $4.50 a gal .
