Just Venting

This forum is great and frustrating all at the same time. Just when I think I've found a good deal on a nice class A I come here and my hopes are smashed like so much kindling. Lol

First it's a HR with the notorious trailing arms and weak transmission, then it's an allegro that potentially has the exploding Cummins ISL. Next it will be a Fleetwood with gremlins or a Winnebago with a poltergeist. DON'T GO INTO THE LIGHT CAROL ANN!!!!

My Beaver is being held together with Eternabond, bunjee chords and prayers but the chassis/engine/trans are relatively reliable according to everything I read. I'm at 100,000 miles and it pulls my 6500 lb trailer like a champ through the mountains. I've passed semis and passenger vehicles alike and when driving through large metro areas I get in the fast lane and flow along with all the PUNY HUMANS at 80 mph rather than playing bumper cars with the little bastards in the slow/merging lanes.

In conclusion I would like to thank everyone for their advice, wisdom and experience. And if you see a Beaver doing 80 mph in Vegas with it's rear bumper dragging and roof flapping in the breeze please wave and pick up any pieces I leave behind.

Sincerely, Steve

Steve, I owned a 2005 Monaco Diplomat for 10 years. It was the best coach I ever had. It was immaculate when I sold it. It had the 400 ISL with an engine chip and a high tech engine fan, that made it a rocket.

Don't give up on your search. Monaco made a LOT of coaches before going out of business. In 2005, Monaco started using the 400 ISL in Diplomats and HR Endeavors. The had a great chassis. I would keep an eye out for a nice 05, 06 or 07 Diplomat or Endeavor.

I can pretty much bet that no one will say bad things about the above coaches. During that time frame, the ISL with the piston circlips issue was in some of those coaches. If that motor hasn't blown by now, it never will. I can only think of one report on here, in 15 years, where they had one go bad. Don't fear that engine.

Love those express lanes through Vegas! Im on the hunt for a new old coach too and pretty much sold on Newmar. The best coach for me so far is a 37’ 2008-10 DS but I want something a bit newer, unless I can find a really low milage one. But the point is I discovered that model/year here and even though Ive looked at thousands of coaches on line, I didn't know about this one until I saw it being discussed here on another topic.

So it can go either way here. Good luck with either your search for a replacement or keeping the bus on the road!

I appreciated the humor in your post. And I agree and share your frustrations with not just this site but others like it.

But these sites, while sometimes providing clear and well informed advice are often, in my view more often, a place for the axe grinders to exercise their particular kind of misinformation and prejudice.

Picking through all of that to get to some version of accuracy and informed advice often takes gobs of patience.

In terms of judging "experience" of someone and the efficacy of their advice, it's often good to remember that it is possible to have 10 years of experience or one year of experience ten times over...never really learning anything new. Also experience "Ages Out" very quickly now days with the ever increasing pace of technological and industrial advances. Leaving someone behind the times and thus inadvertently giving not so good advice.

So go ahead and ask that question...but be prepared and forewarned...you may not get what you want or needed.
