K-Z Spree how to fill hot water tank

We just purchased our first RV. It's a 2009 K-Z Spree 28'.

First, the manual is terrible. It's for several different K-Z trailers and many options. So, I can't figure out what's for our trailer.

I have hooked up to city water. I open the sink cold valve and water comes out. I open the hot water valve and NO water comes out. I thought by opening the sink hot water valve, I would initiate water flow into the hot water tank. I don't want to turn on the hot water heater (switch) till I know there is water in it.

What am I doing wrong?

Congrats on the new rig! My bet is that the water heater is bypassed for winterizing! Keep her between the ditches!

What happens when you open pressure relief valve on tank?

I found a valve under the couch. That's were there is access to the hot water heater, pump, and fresh water tank. It looks like there is a valve to pick between city water and fresh water tank to fill the hot water heater.

No, there would be no such valve. The tank fills from the cold water lines in the RV, regardless of whether the source is city or tank/pump. The valve you found is likley the heater bypass, used when winterizing with antifreeze. It routes the cold water around the tank and direct to the hot faucets. Try turning that valve and see if you get cold water at the faucet is either position. If you get cold water to the faucet, the tank is bypass. Turn it the opposite way to fill the heater and have a hot water supply.

The winterizing valve system utilizes a check valve on the heater outlet. If that valve sticks in the closed position, no hot water can pass thru the tank.

You can tell if there is water in the heater by opening the PT Relief on the outer side of the heater. Do this with water pressure on (city or pump) but heat (LP or electric) off. Open carefully, cause the water is under pressure if in the heater tank.

Shouldn't have to swap any valve in order to use city water OR pump....both sources feed same cold water line.

S/B a 'cold' water inlet valve that allows water to go into water heater (regardless of source)

That valve could be a 3-way valve.....used as cold water inlet or as bypass.

Also remember......no water will flow out of a hotside of faucet UNTIL the water heater tank is FULL (6 gallons or 10 gallons depending on WH tank size)

In 'bypass' mode water should flow almost immediately out of hotside faucet cause you have bypassed WH Tank but water would be cold
