I can't find an appropriate forum, so here goes. We are thinking of buying a fifth wheel and I have a 100 lb kayak I want to transport. With the bed used by the fifth wheel, where can I transport the kayak? All ideas welcome.

Not familiar with the backend of fifth wheel RV's but maybe you can get an idea here?

I used to carry 2 kayaks on top of my Class C.

I made 2 support blocks for each kayak and then improvised a tie down system. I made the blocks out of Styrofoam, the elevated the kayaks enough to carry upside down so I didn't have to worry about rain & I thing they were a little more aerodynamic being carried this way.

I had 1 rope go across the front of the 2 kayaks and down the side of the coach where I had an eye bolt on each side that I had fastened to the frame just in front of the rear wheels, the stuck out just enough so the ropes wouldn't hit the sides of the coach, I used a foam spacer block where the rope came over the edge of the roof. I had one rom in the back that tied to the trailer hitch or bike rack.

I have seen many on roofs of every type of RV. It'll take two to load up as well as getting them off. I'm sure it wouldn't be that much of a job.

100 lb? Must be a tandem sailing job, or loaded for fishing! Depending on the length (and floor plan) you might be able to fit it in the door and lay it in the aisle. We did that with our first Class A. Can't get them in the DP door now, but maybe through the emergency exit window. Probably just mount them on the toad...

How long is it? I've seen kayaks carried vertically on the back end of the RV.

Yakima, Thule, and several others make a support that fits into a hitch mounted to the front of your truck. Then add a single roof rack. It works like this.

That is the way to go! My father in law used this for years. Easy to get to the kayaks. They are always with the truck when you go to the lake (thy aren't when they are racked on your trailer).

I purchased a ladder style rack for my Kayaks from US Rack about 5 years ago - great customer service and the rack has worked flawlessly. I know it's not the type of rack you are looking for, just thought I would pass on my experience with the company.

J Birder showed a photo of a similar rig I used. Mine was a Darby Extend-a-Rack that fit into a front-mounted receiver. Used it for our 14' 130lb Hobie Tandem Oasis. I put a pad on the top cross bar and was able to one-man it on top from the front. I used a single roof rack on the truck roof. Worked very well.
