Are you kayking on lakes or rivers or ocean?

Afternoon paddles or overnight excursions in the kayak?

Size of paddler?

Have you gone kayaking before with a rental or borrowed kayak?

With those answered, I can make some reccomendations.

Afternoon paddles or overnight excursions in the kayak? Afternoon paddlers.

Size of paddler? One paddler 200 lbs and one 130 lbs

Have you gone kayaking before with a rental or borrowed kayak? NO

With those answered, I can make some recommendations.

We see alot of Kayaking on the Colo river, looks like fun. Thank for the help. Denny

Denny,

Your best bet is to rent some kayaks and try it out and see what size boat fits you best. Here is a place I found on the internet that is close to the dam:

Kayaking is not for everyone as you are low to the water and usually sitting in some of that water too. With a canoe, you tend to be up higher and drier.

There are inflatable, sit upon, and sit in types that all have their pros and cons.

In the RV world, an inflatable definitely has its advantages with storage at a premium. Sea Eagle makes a nice one that are very durable and can even be used by two for about $800.

2x on the rent-and-try-before-buy

for RV storage limitations, Point 65 makes a 2 piece take-apart SOT (sit-on-top). Each piece is 5 1/2 ' long. Also have a 3rd piece to make it a two paddler version. REI handles them here in Houston, and I have got to get by there and check them out.

And another rent first recommendation. Coupled with a STRONG recommendation on training from whoever you rent from. You need to know how to deal with rolling over in the kayak. (unless you have an inflatable or sit-upon). This is a serious safety issue. Also life vests and helmets!
