I picked up a universal mount from "The Source" that holds both my BlackBerry Playbook and my ASUS Transformer both of which run GPS programmes. Works well with both.

Does this work with the large Rand McNally base?

I mounted my Garmin RV760 on one of these arms:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o01_s01

I mounted the arm on the kick panel under the dash on the left, and installed a 12v plug there so the unit plugs in right at the base of the arm. This puts the GPS unit right by my left window, about the same place lots of people put their suction cup mounts. I'll see if I can find a picture of the set up somewhere.

...mine is on the driver side window. Close enough to see it and adjust if necessary.

On this current trip we mounted ours on the driver's side upper window and it worked very well.

This was my choice for mounting the Garmin RV760-LMT GPS.

All RAM parts purchased from GPS City.

I tried the disc's, (the suction cup never held very well and would come loose at the worse time), used side window, but the cup would fail... finally stopped at wally world and got some Velcro strips with tape on the back. Put a loop strip on back of my Garmin RV760-LMT and a hook strip over tachometer and bingo!

positioned perfectly, securely, and easy to remove. I never use tach anyway but could remove gps if needed.

I may have a solution for you, will know in a week or so.

I am replacing my dead OEM GPS on my Vectra with the 7710. In my cab the old GPS was an Alpine DVD unit in the overhead and a 6.5" monitor mounted on my dash. I think I've found a way to mount the 7710 in the flat spot where the old monitor stood. It involves a round ball base for the dash, another for the GPS (I'll call it the 'backplate' - the holder part that the GPS snaps in to and has the stylus on the back), and a double-socket arm between the two.

I went here RAM Mounting Systems, Inc. and after looking for a while and taking some measurements I've ordered the following parts:

RAM-B-202 Round base 1" ball AMP hole pattern
RAM-B-201-C Long Double Socket Arm for 1" ball bases
RAM-B-238 Diamond base with 1" ball

I have measured and believe the diamond base will fit nicely into the removable backplate that holds the 7710. I'll either have to glue or more likely drill/countersink a couple small holes in the backplate to mount the diamond base. The larger round base will fit my dash and the double-socket arm should give me a wide range of motion.

Warning: first, I have the parts on order as I post this, but it will be a week before I get them to know for sure if this will work. Second, attaching the diamond base to the backplate will make it unusable in the suction mount while the diamond base is attached.

I'll post more when I get the parts and see if it works out, but with the link you might find some options for you.
I use RAM mounts for All of my dash mount electronics. You can't beat the adjustability. You can mount the bases with 3M tape if you don't want to screw them to the dash. The 3M tape holds even the heavy GPS base without a problem.

Just got my coach back from the shop and grabbed a shot of my GPS mount install. You can see that it is mounted to the kick panel under the dash. Its placement doesn't obstruct any buttons, switches, or gauges while also swinging easily out of the way of the shades. Since I installed a 12v socket right next to it I don't have to deal with the power cord stretching across the dash either.

The 12v socket I installed also has a 2amp USB port so I ran a USB cable under the dash to a phone mount on the other side.
